I just want my GN2 brothers and sisters to know that yesterday I was mocked, MOCKED! I was jamming away here in my rec room when my daughter and a few of her friends came down. They said I looked goofy because I wear the guitar up too high! Is it a guitar or a bow tie?....sniff! Being teased by 13 & 14 year old girls. Its my school years all over again. I dont know how Jimmy Page wore his LP so low, he must have had monkey arms. Im going to take my guitar strap down a few notches and see how it works for me.

Sniff I hear ya man - it's all coming back to me now too! Girls are just so ... mean Don't forget that these same girls probably think that guys who drive their cars while, basically, laying down also "look cool". Trouble is they can't control their cars just before they hit the trees. I always felt like guys who wear their guitars down low also can't control them just before their wicked solo crashes into a tree. Yeah, there are exceptions, but I guess now you gotta decide whether you wanna look good or sound good. Girlyman, uh, I mean deep, ;D If I were you I would wear the guitar where you feel you can control it. Seriously, I don't care what I look like so long as I can have a decent shot at playing well. dd842

Ha , nothing like the words of children to bring you back to reality! I was all exited to play Niel Young's "Old Man" recently mastered on my acoustic to my 8 year old daughter, only to be asked why did I have to scream while singing! ...Ah well at least she did not comment on my playing! the next week, I told her that I had a soft song on the acoustic for her and that I would not scream....she gave me one of those looks...like there is no way in hell that I will listen to that again! :'(She will never know, but that look busted my confidence for a couple of days! I would still do anything for her of course! Cheers

Show them an early shot of John Entwistle, by comparision anyone should be lower . I wear the acoustic up high (think Johnny Cash), my bass with the horn at the bottom edge of the rib cage, about the same with the Tele (looks higher even though it isn't), and the '51 with the horn about 1" below my ribs. Daughter #1 prefers that her friends NOT see me playing the acoustic standing up, and is most critical of me on songs that she knows and likes; If I play a Green Day song, it better be perfect if her friends are around.... I haven't yet been mocked.....at least not to my face....though I'm SURE it's coming. Mainly because I'm THISCLOSE to looking like this:

Well, I know a guy that techs for some semi-famous new groups and a big part of his workload is, you guessed it, guitar lessons!
It's a whole lot easier to play low when you only know (or need) the location of four chords and/or five notes......
And, when you run everything thru a grinder..........

well, the obvious answer to such a mockery is: not everybody is such a gorilla like you.
dunkelfalke, uncool and proud of it.

I play my Rhodes about 3 inches below the belt and my LP 5 inches below the belt (from the top strap button). But my acoustic is always hangin Johnny Cash style.
