en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Mayen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_SpecialThat is Brian May's famous home built guitar , Take a close look at the White Dots on top of his two Controls, Those are all switches. Lately i was in a guitar shop in rome and they had this signature for about 900Euros (Price of an average Strat i would say). It had no brand but pick-Ups were 'Burns'. What are those switches for???

...What are those switches for??? Brian's wiring, unlike most guitars, is exclusively in series. three of the switches are: on / off. (one for each pickup) three of the switches are: in-phase / out-of-phase. (one for each pickup) unk

If you are really interested in doing the wiring yourself, here is John Atchley's information and diagrams: On my own website, I've made my own diagram and gave appropriate credit to John Atchley, the founder of GutarNuts. Scroll down to Phasing for all 3 pickups on this page: www.1728.com/guitar3.htmYes, Brian May's guitar has 6 switches but John Atchley's diagram (and my own) have only 3 switches. Basically, Brian May's 3 on/off switches and his 3 phase switches have been combined into 3 DPDT center off switches.

Weeelllll, I believe that png123 inquired aboot series. Both of these latter links are for parallel pickups. There IS a way of doing this with 3 DPDT ON-ON-ON switches that is center-off for each pickup, gives in-phase and out-of-phase, and DOES NOT short a pickup.

here's the switching info for the original and variations if wanted... www.treblebooster.com/brian_may_pickup_mod.htmi've not played one yet but i've heard great things about those Burns Brian Mays. a new version just came out without the Burns logo--just the "Brian May" signature. not seen it in US shops though.

I had one of these Burns Reissues. It's close, but not identical to the original.
Unfortunately I was unimpressed and returned it. The build quality was shaky, the pickups were very weak on the high "E" string, and the neck/frets weren't all that well dressed.
I did want to like it, but an Am Dlx Strat at about the same cost is much better quality. Use the Mike Richardson wiring scheme (or the S-1 if'n ya want to preserve the vintage (not) value).

...if'n ya want to preserve the vintage (not) value... yeah, no new holes, and all that, but as soon as you disturb one solder joint....
