'lo again comrades. Once again wondering the life (actually scared of the fact that we really don't know anything about things that happen "right now", cos different signals from surroundings reaching our senses move at finite speeds... huh...) but I also started to think how to turn guitar into radio receiver. ;D We are always fighting against mains hum and rf-signals and such.. how about making a compromise and using guitar as antenna (with proper on-off bypass-switching ofcourse)... heard so many tales about guitar picking local radio station... it would be fun to flick a switch when having a break and listen local news or sumthing.... Maybe bridge-grounding could be used as antenna? Just wondering if this is beating a dead horse... I guess there are some limitations what frequencies to use... would need adjustable cap... and just wondering if I could dial up my local stations, which in Finland are around 87-108MHz... Again - asking, cos little knowledge about these things... did some searching and found little useful info... luckily my electronics and electromagnetism -courses at university start this week.. Hope I'll be wiser after those... All the best Dark

If anyone ever suggests that we start a "Best Threads" topic on this forum, this thread is gonna be the first candidate! ;D Dark, let's wait a few semesters before going into details about this, OK? sumgai

Only gravitons do. Since time itself is only just a variable, "infinite" is only just relative........... I built a twin triode-based fuzz box (two anti-parallel 1N34's) back in the 60's. It picked up local AM radio stations betwixt notes (let alone between songs or sets) (~~1 MHz), but then my father suggested that I might try using an enclosure.............. I think that many folk currently (inadvertently) already do this. Well, you might have to tune(r) up them in........ ;D Hmmm, Country Music IS everywhere. ;D "Do you like country music?" "I dunno, which country?" "Cheech Martin"

Oh my... ment FINITE speeds not INFINITE speeds... Well mistakes happen... That whole thing was roughly based on newtonian principles, so it's not, nor should be, the whole ugly thruth... But back to topic. ;D It would make things bit easier if using one of those small radios you can hide in your pocket... Those would contain needed electronics for dialing a station... But then... Will the signal picked up be strong enough to sound decent? Or would it need some preamp? I know signal gets to amp, but what is the outcome? Sumgai I'm trying to do my best and keep my mouth shut... but I'm just addicted to guitars, electronics and physics (though lacking skill in all of them... ) Got one crazy idea immediately... If you had one guitar with electronics to send the signal... Your buddy could dial up on your frequency with his antenna-guitar... and make worst playback ever... ;D It would be Guinness record... hardest way to have playback-gig... Stupid, but just crossed my mind... That kind of thing could happen with wireless systems I suppose... And prolly has happened too... I'll take a tour at the local mall today and look for cheap pocket-radio...

Or, you could like just use a cheap pocket-radio to listen to radio stations and leave the poor guitar alone.

The Admin has spoken! ;D I was more in the frame of mind that we would end up in a long discussion, whereby I would have to bring in a lot elementary electronics stuff pertaining to radio, and this is not really the place to get that detailed. Perhaps if we were to speak towards the topic of 'wireless' replacements for guitar cords, I could see that. But for making our guitars into radios? Nah, not for me. However, if anyone else steps up with some good information for you, I'll certainly applaud their efforts on your behalf. sumgai

Ay ay captain, my captain! ;D Yeah I suggest it's not serving the purpose if you start to lecture here about basic stuff... while I can check the stuff up from my high school books... I remember needed circuits and principles were presented there too... Maybe I'll come up with schematic... Though still waiting good sale to find pocket radio.. checked out yesterday and cheapest one was nearly 30€, which imo is bit expensive to be screwed... you can get one under 10€ in good day... waiting for that... I'll bump this thread up when something comes up... Dark

Well from i suppose propper education could be useful... its fun to ponder though! ;D ;D ;D
Welllllll i think a little radio in a guitar could actually work!
Ive picked up stations on my little chinese Affinity Squier Strat maaaaaany times!
You've got half the ingrediants in a guitar to pick up Radio anyway! Not very good ones but still! I mean most of these common new radios you get these days either use the shield of the headphones as an ariel or a bit of cheap copper wire wrapped around a ferrite rod. (a bit like a Pickup and its magnets) Since your not Transmitting with the PU it doesnt really need to be highly tuned. Im not too sure about how to tune the things up.. probably some osilator and a crystal... i forgotten all my radio tech stuff i learn 7 years ago =-(!
But have a nice little pre-amp then into the guitar amp and wehey radio =-D!
Its easier to find AM stations, and its better to pick them up with guitars that have cheap and nasty sheilding as they dont block the RF. (Also on the jack leads)
It would be a hell ofa fun project though! =-) ;D -Guitar Doode

Hey! i think I'd like a little Ipod sized radio built into a guitar, that I could mix in with the playing.
How often do you hear a tune on the radio and want to jam along, but then find that you cant hear the radio over the racket thats coming from your double stack of 4x12's?
This way it would all be in balance. Plus it would be a great extension rig for the Ipod.

....... Plus it would be a great extension rig for the Ipod. Used Ipod off of eBay - $50 Beat up guitar to hold Ipod - $50 400 watts of Marshall amp for Ipod and guitar - $1500 John repeatedly yelling at his Ear Doctor: "What'd you say?" - priceless! ;D

Unfortunately, Newton was "relativity" uneducated.
