Hey! I'm back for another QTB mod. My first was a cheap strat copy that I did poorly (skimpy aluminum foil, electrical tape). This time I bought some adhesive copper tape with conductive backing, so I should be good to go. When I opened up the American strat, I noticed two things: it's swimming pool routed, and has a fairly large foil shield on the pickguard (the guitar is still noisy, however). What I'm wondering is if I should take off the original shielding and replace with my copper foil. I'd feel better about it, but it probably won't be a clean and easy process. Would there be any problem with the copper and factory shielding co-existing? Any conductivity issues, etc.? If so, I'll do the best I can to remove it. Or should I just stick the copper over the top? Also, there's already a body ground wire. The paint is missing where it was screwed down. The other end connects to the volume pot, where another wire was run to the trem. What's up with that? One more thing: there are rubber tube pieces over the pickup mounting springs. Do you suppose that was done to isolate the pickups from the shielding or to cut down on spring noise (can't say I've ever heard noise from the pup mounts)? You can just make one out in the second pic, to the right of the volume pot. It's copper in color. Please notice the original shielding on first pic, and the body ground on the second one.
