I'm brand new here and I suspect that this has been discussed often. I have an HSS Peavey with non-original pickups. The two singles together have a fair amount of hum that disappears when I touch the strings, bridge, or jack. The humbucker does the same but the hum is a bit less annoying. Any suggestions?

sounds like you have a ground loose. also, i would suggest sheilding your pup cavities and wiring cavity, also the back of the pickguard(if this axe has one.) may i suggest following this. at any rate, make sure there are no ground loops, and make sure that all grounds are connected securely. Tyler

I had the same problem, i turned the guitar upside down till i found out it was the Ground disconnected in the amp jack (the one that goes into the wall, dunno how you call that in english, jack outlet ? heeh).
best choice would be to check with a multimeter, put the black on the bridge (flooyd, trem whatever you got, or the strings) and the red one on the ground inside the guitar, see if there's a connection, check pup's ground also, but if it doesn't happen with other guitars, i'd check my amp.
