helloo...i'm Way..i'm new here...i'm glad to see this forum..
just want to ask you begginer questions...is it a good thing if i replace my tone pot from A500K to B500K?what are the advantage n disadvantage if i do this ? and will it change my guitar sound n character(tone) of my guitar?thx u so much

Hi way - welcome to GN2.

Changing the tone pot from A500k to B500k will not affect the guitar tone at min or max settings. In between, as you reduce from 10, the 'A' type gets more quickly to the range where treble is starting to be cut, than will the 'B' type, for which most of the tone change is in the range 0 - 3. B is a linear taper while A approximates a logarithmic taper. There are no new sounds to find by doing this.

btw...what do you recommend for the tone pot?A or B? i found out some choose the linear pot, they even recommended it...i don't undertand why,but i am quiet curious..(that's why i want to change mine) ...but it seems that most manufactures use audio both for vol and tone,is it true that they did that because they wan't to minimalize the cost?

In my experience, 'log' pots are much more effective as tone controls. just my $0.02

Either taper will sound exactly the same. The only thing that changes is where on the dial (at what number setting on a numbered knob) a given tone cut occurs. An audio taper more closely follows the human hearing response curve, certainly for volume and likely for tone cut as well. Human hearing is constant step ratio sensitive and an audio taper is related to a logarithmic curve.

i have changed to B500k to hear the difference...but now,i'm now confuse,maybe because i'm new on this ...is it ok if i have the tone pot heard big suddenly when i swift the tone knob from range 2 to 3? i mean, when the knob in range 2, there is no tone heard, but..... when i bring the tone knob to range 3, i hear some sound like a click : "cck",and suddenly the tone heard big.. is it ok to have that "cck" sound and the suddenly big tone? n i do sometime hear the turning knob sound in my amp as i turn off the knob.....for info: this problems happened only if i turn my tone knob fast..is this normal?..i hope u understand what i mean..i 'm so confuse,please help.. thx u,guys...

It sounds like you have an intermittent pot. As in bad. You may need to spray some pot cleaner in it.

I prefer audio taper pots for both volume and tone since the human ear has a logarithmic response and not a linear one.

Sure, if it's OK with you.

But, that effect would be WHY we use audio taper pots for tone!

oh,ok... i guess i'll keep it for a while then , cause i don't know how to solder or anything about electronic..i have to ask my friend to do it for me... so,i'll keep it for a while then..for now,i'll fix that click sound (arggh,it's new! )...
