Hey y'all,
This is my first post.
I'm getting ready to shield my strat with the instructions on GuitarNuts.com, and I was reading through the whole process before I started to make sure I understand. I have one question.
On step 21, it says to insulate the signal return ring connector and wires or terminals that might touch the inside of the body when the pickguard is installed.
I'm assuming when he says insulate, he means to just wrap it with electrical tape I'm guessing? Or is there something else that would work better?
Thanks much

There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.
Just kidding! You are on the right track, anything non-conductive will work. Electrical tape works... Hell scotch tape or masking tape would probably be fine too.

Great, thanks much!
I've got the aluminum foil on the pickguard and body cavity, and I'm hoping to finish up the project in a few days.

Ok, another question:
It says to foil the bottom cavity of the guitar, and then cut strips to go up the sides and overlap on top.
It says that since rubber cement (or spray adhesive) is not conductive, and we want it to be one continuous shield, you need to tape the overlapped pieces of foil together with electrical tape.
But, electrical tape isn't conductive either, so .... am I missing something?

Nobody's welcomed you yet, so i will.
Welcome.
The foil going up the sides should overlap the foil in the bottom. If you put rubber cement between the layers, it will insulate them and it will not shield properly. You shouldn't be putting the tape between the layers.

So you're ONLY using electrical tape to connect the side/top pieces of foil to the bottom. You're not using rubber cement as well. In other words, if the bottom foil piece is A, and the side piece (that spills over to the top) is B: You attach B to the sides of the body cavity and the top with rubber cement/spray adhesive, but when attaching it to the bottom, you have B overlap on top of A (with no adhesive on the bottom of piece B), and you tape B to A with electrical tape. Correct? Thanks

Yar! I actually used a piece of copper wire to connect the pickguards shielding to the cavity shielding. I felt safer having something a little more solid in there.
