Is it possible to "change" the value of a 250k pot to 500k by adding resistors across the lugs? A seller shipped me the wrong value, but if I can easily change it and make it behave correctly I'd rather just hang on to it rather than send it back and wait for the correct one.

colin, In a word: No. The First Rule of Resistors: Two (or more) of them add their values when hooked together in series, and they divide their values when connected in parallel. So, if you splice on an extra resistor to the outer terminal (or two, one to each of the outer terminals), the total overall resistance will be higher (that series connected thing), but the pot will only be controlling a part of that overall resistance, not the whole amount. Similarly, hooking up a resistor across the two outer terminals won't work either (now we're in parallel mode) because you're already too low, and anything connected this way will only make the final value be even lower. Conclusion: time to ask the vendor to let you send the part back, and get another one of the correct value. Sorry 'bout that. HTH sumgai

Thanks. I'm on the west coast and he's on the east coast. I was just hoping not to have to wait for it. I appreciate your help! ;D
