This is one of my favorite pickups. It's a very bright and hot sounding humbucker massively popularized by one of my all time favorite players, Dimebag Darrell. This pickup not only has blazing tone, but it's also very clear and free of unwanted interference due to designer Bill Lawrence's obsession with fending off unwanted "eddy currents" that cause interruptions in your signal. The 500XL is also responsible for that unique twang you hear entwined in Dime's heavy chunking rhythms, the screaming in his leads, and I believe even some of the eerie chills in his clean tones. Of course the style and technique could only come from Dime himself, but the 500XL is a "key" element to his signature tone.

As a side note to the above posting: Buyer Beware - Bill Lawrence did have some legal issues involving the reproduction of this pickup by another company and I have heard horror stories about Fake Bill Lawrence pickups that produce massive squealing feedback even at low volume levels.

yeah, what was the deal with those fakes? i believe it was stewmac that offered faux BL PUs, just blatantly misusing the name! i believe they discontinued them, but how'd they expect to get away with that?

"Real" Bill Lawrence pickups can be found here: www.billlawrence.com/The fake ones are here: www.billlawrenceusa.com/EDIT: After some reading and a few HC reviews, I've decided that I HAVE to try a few of these. I think I'm going to get a L-500R and L-500L or two L-500R's for my Epi Les Paul from Bill and Becky. Every review I have read about these has been nothing but high praise.
