One of the chassis I am about to mod came with EMG Select Humbuckers. I've fired them up but at first blush found them a little brittle and unremarkable. Juries still out. But before I decide to pull them an post on Ebay has anyone had any experience with disassembly.
I've seen JH turn undistinguished no-name ceramics into relatively acceptable tone generators, so I don't want to summarily dismiss these.
My questions:
Are these the type of construction Wolf despises? You know, "potted in a brick of Epoxy."
I can't remember the wiring config -- 2, 3 or 4 leads. Anyone know?
If only 2 or 3, and the answer to the first question is "no epoxy" how hard are they to convert to 4 lead.
Then is it even worth it? Are they rehabilitatible to an acceptable musical sound producer?
Thanks. This is stuff I of course could find out with exploratory surgery, but if you guys have the experience it would be easier to know what you found.
I lean to pkging them up and posting on ebay, but I may be persuaded by other's experience, or be persuaded to post rapidly.
In any event, if I sell, they won't get too much -- about $30/set.
Thanks RW
