one of my hobby is working on low end guitar . for me I buy them rebuild them and sometimes sell them to friends or people looking for a good sounding guitar . yes i do have a fender stat that looks great and sounds great ( I did not open it up for fear that my wife would kill me ) so its stock . but I have to tell you I have got some cheap squier's that kick but and I love them .after doing some mods on them they sound great . I play them more then the stat . boy is that nuts or what .LOL its alot of fun . so if you looking for a guitar on the low cost side pick up a squier and open it up and get your solder iron hot and go for it . and if you need help give a yell we will come running . it cool to say you have a high end ax but its way cool to have one that you did all the work yourself .

I'm a very big fan of low-end guitars myself. I think the best for your buck is the OLP MM1. Great action and nice construction. AND after some rewiring, it has trememndous range. Another great guitar is the Saga Guitar Kit. Yes, this involves some work and you really have to be familiar with truss rod adjustment, intonation and of course rewiring. I was really surprised when I built this how great a guitar it really is.

I went to a local Pawn shop here about the end of December this year because there was a fairly nice relic looking Gibson(tm) Firebird-V I had my eye on for quiet some time. They had this guitar for sale at $399.99 and I was sure I could explain ONE MORE to my loving wife. ;D As we all know you could haggle and try to persuade a member of the fraternal order of Pawnbrokers until your face turned blue with little to no results. This just happened to be one of those days for a guy that apparently needed to pay his electric bill. The poor guy needed to barrow $40.00 and Pawnbroker guy behind the counter would'nt budge from $25.00. Disgruntled and saying to the rest of the World what he thaught Pawnbroker guy behind the counter should do with himself, he stormed out of the place. I fallowed him to his car and asked him what he needed and why. He did'nt appear at all decietful.........so I told him to let me see what he had. Turns out it was an Intense metallic red 2000 model Jackson(tm) JS-1 Dinky reverse headstock with plain-jane dot inlays in the neck. The typical 2 humbucker 3 way switch and two-point tremolo. I offered him $60.00 because he really acted like I was saving he, his wife and two month old daughter from frost bite last winter and because I did'nt want to feel BAD the rest of the day. I have'nt really even thought about that guitar until you posted this thread "jdtogo." I really don't claim it as part of my collection, but I should. Heck the thing plays good, the action is fairly low and could be better. The humbuckers are nice and hot as well. I had put it in a closet of one of the rooms we are re-modeling and totally forgot about it. I was going to hold onto it for my oldest nephew because he has really shown an intrest in music and the guitar especially. Thanks for waking me up "jdtogo"! I would really like to know how far I can push the envelope with this one. My nephew will not only have a guitar, but a HOT-RODDED custom for his first. Now how cool is that?

prices for a good guitar are simultaneously at an all-time high and an all-time low. prices for a high-end fender, gibson, or ibanez have probably never been higher. on the other hand there are so many good, affordable instruments out there from places like korea, taiwan, and china. apart from what big names offer, there are also smaller outfits like agile, jay turser, and eastwood. all 3 offer guitars with almost ridiculously low prices. and, like your squier, jdtogo, once you do a couple of upgrades, you're good to go. and frequently you end up with not just a good guitar for the money but a good guitar period. my main guitar now is an eastwood "reissue" of a 60's guyatone model that i paid $300 for new! i upgraded the pups w/ mighty mite alnicos and it's now my favorite ever guitar!

hello StratLover that story is so on the mark about Pawnbroker or shops . I was in one about 2 weeks ago and it was the same thing . a guy a little down on his luck selling his amp ( a lot of people out of work in Michigan right now ....sad ) . well the pawn guy got very upset with me . he told the guy all he could give him was 20.00 and I said h*** i will give you 30.00 . pawnguy told me to go and not come back ... ha ha I know the owner a nice old guy . anyway he did ask me not to do that in the store but it was cool with him if i did outside . but your right about Pawnbroker not going down on the way to high price they put on things . but at the end of the mouth they will work with you if sales are down and the bills are due . its a good place to find things . got my grandson a nice finder (15 watt ) for 30.00 that day .
