Now , a lot of you guys are gonna read this & go " Heck, I coulda told 'im that " but I'm really stoked about finding this all by myself & I just had to share it ;D . I need just a little more wire to finish up the ( eternal ) Ibanez . It's about a 24 ( or so ) gauge , 1 conductor with a bare shield in the insulation , so I cut off a little piece & went shoppin'. I tried Radio Shack , Fry's , Lowe's - nada . I got directions from this guy , suggestions from that guy ,Mom & Pop stores , computer repair places, down this road , up that one , "maybe over here " . Nuttin' . Nope . Zilch . I did find some braided 2- conductor but the braid is so thick that by the time I twist the grounds together it's almost as thick as my pinky . So I noticed my USB cable & thought "That must be shielded " I cut off the end and Bingo-2-conductor w/ a nice fine shield. Then I tried a cable w/ RCA ends ( like for T.V. etc. ) & Bingo again ..1-conductor w/shield , & nice insulation , too. And , I 've collected tons of this stuff over the years . So , if ya already knew this , cool . If not , cool , maybe you can use it . As for me , & as far as my garage is concerned; Wire is . ;D 'Night guys , - -lpf3

Anti-vintageously speaking (huff huff), since there's aboot a mile (1.6 km) of that there real thin wire in a pickup, the last several inches don't matter all that much. Gasp! (Although with USB 2.0, one might find that one tends to play a little too fast.)

ChrisK - Can I count on you to back me up on that one whenever the need arises ? ;D Now that I have what I'm looking for this is hypothetical but I got a couple of questions about this wire thingie ...... This is a hollow body & obviously I'm not shielding . And after recent posts by you & sumgai I'm not concerning myself with ground loops : just grounding to the pots like the original wiring . What if I used plain ol' hookup for my signal returns , no shield , and only grounded the pups to the tailpiece ? What if I used unshielded 2-conductor , using one of the conductors as a ground ? As it is now , using shielded wire , The guitar is so quiet that when I first plugged it in I thought didn't work ( 'till I hit the strings & it played ) So there's my questions - I've learned that the more I learn the more I have to learn BTW , I like your tip on grounding to the zero lug of the pot , for me it's neater & easier................ Thanks - lpf3

lp, Let me see if I got this right: you wanna take a chance on making your guitar less quiet? Dude, I don't know what you're smoking, but please, keep that stuff away from me - it might be catching, whatever it is! sumgai

sumgai - Nooooononono....... ,ain't smokin nuttin' either , honest ;D Those are stictly hypothetical questions .I shoulda' been more clear & wrote " what if I had used ......" I wouldn't change a thing now but when I first laid out the job I really didn't know what wire to use or why . In fact , one of the reasons I don't post all that much Is 'cuz I spend a lot of time reading old threads & pickin' up what I can....kinda talkin' less & listening more 'till I got something worth adding And now I don't wonder what would happen if I used unshielded wire Y'oughta hear the questions I don't ask ;D ;D ;D ;D -lpf3
