Hi guys, I have a Mexican made strat with stock pickups, and am about to buy a Duncan pearly gates pickup for the bridge. I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction as to what schematics to use. I was thinking maybe doing this, www.guitar-mod.com/rg_dialatap_11.html . Someone else suggested I do these. combine this: www.seymourduncan.com/support/wirin...g_1vol_1tone_5wand this: www.seymourduncan.com/support/wirin...ematic=1h_1v_spI am unsure what that would really look like together though. Maybe you could give me a diagram where both of those things are together? OR could you maybe give me and other suggestions as to what schematics I should use. I play blues, and classic rock, and a little bit of "metal" if that counts for anything. thanks a lot

Before I thought up my 'Coyote Dancer' strat mod, I tried a couple of wiring schemes, but they just involved the three singles, no humbucker. One I tried was the famous 'blender strat' scheme. I just used a standard tone pot as the blender, so it was never actually out of the circuit when turned all the way down. You're first diagram there shows a similar setup but with a proper 'no load' pot. The blender circuit was useful, but I tended to just use it either all the way on or all the way off. A switch would have been just as good.
Here's an idea. Wire it up the humbucker (assuming it has 4 leads) with an on/on/on DPDT mini toggle to get; series, single and parallel. Then use a 5 position 'mega switch' using only the neck single and humbucker to get; neck, neck and hum parallel, neck and hum series, neck and hum series out of phase, and hum. Then wire the middle single on the no load blender pot and you'll be getting 18 combinations with no 'dead switch' spots (I think, haven't had my coffee yet!). The T-riffic mod for telecasters shows how to wire the 5 way mega switch this way.

That depends on which direction it is that you want to go. Knowing what variations from the typical Strat you might have in mind might help. The Duncan links are abbreviated and don't go to what you intended.

ok, well I ordered the pearly gates and a HSS pickguard last night, and should get it in less than a week. For now I am just going to wire it like a normal strat, but replace the SC in the bridge with the humbucker.
In the future, is there any mods you would recommend I do in the future? I will probably use this guitar for pretty much only blues, and classic rock, and the occasionaly "heavier metal" song, so is there any special wirings or mods that would "help" my tone. (I know that the amp, effects, and some of the pickup is most of the tone, but maybe wiring could do something also?)
thanks

There are a number of mods that combine some pickups in series as well as parallel. Series (like the usual wiring structure used in the Pearly Gates humbucker) makes the two pickups sound like a wide spaced humbucker with a more mid-range and louder output than the two pickups in the normal parallel mode. A somewhat extreme (I have designs considerable more extreme such as The HSS All Mode 'Caster) design is the Mike Richardson wiring with phase, one of my favorites. Note that I MUST like it since I didn't design it, but always recommend it. Get the guitar working first with the new pickup, surf about our "Electronics and Wiring" and "Schematics" threads, and let us know what piques your interest. Fair enough?

Yeah, I will get it all working, and then go from there. One thing though, I have no clue how to "read" the schematics you posted. They look kinda, scattered, I guess from the ones i've seen on seymour duncan for example. Can you maybe find a simpler schematic drawn that way and explain it. (maybe 1 hum 1 vol?). Thanks
