Hey guys, Newey and I wanted to see what the consensus would be on a board on recording guitars. This could be a place of good techniques, Microphones and just over all tips/questions on the subject. So what do you guys think? Tyler

This is not a bad idea.
Years ago I worked with tape and analog..you remember...the old kerosene powered Tascams...but I've never really felt that I've taken full advantage of digital recording.
Picking up new knowledge via the benefit of someone else's hard earned experience would be a good idea.

I thought this was a good idea but wanted to see if there was any consensus among the members as to adding a recording questions board.
Certainly, other forums cover this subject in much more depth than we could hope to do. But it would be an opportunity, as Cynical! noted, to learn from each other.
I think, however, we should title it more expansively as "Live Sound and Recording" so as to encompass queries about live sound topics as well.

I'll go for a recording/live section. As Newey says, there are dedicated forums for the truly in-depth, but as part of general guitar usage it would certainly be handy to be able to ask the odd question here without having to sign up to another forum.
At the moment I am doing more writing and recording than guitar focussed stuff anyway- after years of obsession with guitars I am now trying to put what I know to more practical use! That has made me realise how much I have neglected to learn over the years, so any discussion on recording and mixing techniques is a goldmine to me. That said, I have also been using recording gear of various sorts for years, and have presented demo material in quite high demand situations, so hopefully I can give some back too.

Good idea - and I like the recording/live sound addition to it. This whole area seems to be one where cost can be much greater than just that of guitars and amps, and its harder to build up personal experience quickly. So input from those who know more will be particularly valuable.

We have now something over 1400 members, so "consensus" is probably not the right word. But those who have chimed in all seem to like the idea, and no one has given any reason not to set up a Live Sound/Recording area.
I'll leave this be for a few days, and if no negatives are posted warranting further debate, it's a go.

Dang I typed up a whole post about my the technicalities of my recording experiences and then I realized this is a discussion about having a discussion.

Hey, democracy is messy. You can now post your experiences in the "Live Sound and Recording" board that was engendered as a result of this discussion. It's right below "Effects Units". So, we have now moved past the discussion about having a discussion, and are having a discussion.
