Roland/Boss is employing the second coming of the Christ, 'cause no one else could be close enough ot divine to concieve and create the boss RC20XL.
...this is not in the reviews section because I just opened it up three hours ago, if you can't tell. ;D
Looping and playing on the fly is entirely new to me.I'd always excelled at harmonies, and utilized my computer and some free sonftware to assemble them, but through the hassle of setting up my equipment, sound input and outputs, conputer stability, and bad syncing, all my creativity was lost on mental frustration.
Enter the Boss. A loaded friend snagged one for my birthday. Guys, this thing is amazing. It's got auto-quantize, guideclick, and really that's all I need, but for the love of cheese, it's got so many knobs and buttons I think my head might explode when I learn how to use it to it's full potential.
Within three hours, I've discovered that my practice has been beneficial and I've become fluent in soloing over a backing track. I was playing things I'd never heard and on the fly, it was sounding good. I devised new chord progressions and scalar patterns that I'd never ventured into before. I wrote a song.
Some pieces of gear, I think, rob one of their creativity. But this thing blasted mine right open. I'm typing around my guitar 'cause I can't unstrap it. It's -this- good.
For anyone who works alone, this thing is simply a must have. Thank you Boss. And guys... get or try one. NOW. ;D

Went and saw a friends sons band on Sunday and their guitarist had one that he used on two songs. I was sitting with my bud at the sound board and had to cross the MOSH-PIT to get up to the stage. There he was on one knee with a twist here and a twist there he got some really awesome sounds from this thing. There was one effect I was truly amazed by and that was the ability to make your guitar playing sound as if it were being done backwards. Like a rewind from a track machine. I for one know exactly how you feel "RandomHero", so if your loaded friend has a little more to unload, PM me and I will give you my address. ;D ;D ;D ;D

well apparently RandomHero has become a born-again looper! congrats on yr accqusition! those are indeed really nice. i've played w the non-XL version and it rocked, but the XL has expanded functions and is just looper's heaven. i can also HIGHLY recommend the BOSS DD-20. it's from the same series of "double" pedals. it's delay heaven. display in milliseconds OR bpm, tap tempo, a perfect simulation of analog delay and tape delay, reverse delay (for that backmasking thing), 23 seconds of delay time, PLUS 23 seconds of sound-on-sound looping. i use that a lot in the same way you use the RC20XL--for writing songs and parts, etc. obviously, it doesn't have even close to the same loop time, but what it does have is some good short loopin and delayorama! the DD-20 is pretty much boss's answer to the DL4 by line 6, but the DL4 has some SERIOUS interface problems, like no manual mode. (i had it for 1 day and put it up on ebay.) the DD-20 is so easy to use and, like th RC-20, a fun learning tool. anyhow, i guess boss is proving itself even still to be the standard in mainstream pedal design.

.. I still rely on my old-faithful Walkman™ with Record™ feature to practice. (never used sampling live, btw .. there are 2 guitarists in my band ) Oh, and if you're a computer (half-)geek, I highly recommend the Quartz Audio Master Freeware. It's freeware, of course, thus it has limited capability (only 4 wave tracks and 16 MIDI tracks), but hey, it's nag free and ad-free! And in my computer it never crashes. www.digitalsoundplanet.com/SoftwareHouse/Products/Audio_Master/Freeware/freeware.phtml

your right guyaguy ! I told her I needed to test drive the car so we went to guitar center . buy the way is it just me , if your trying to test out a rig at GC you need headphones so you can hear what your doing . at 1st the saleman look at me like , who are you !....but he did get me a pair to use . I did not buy ....but I think I will be . its way to cool to pass up (boss RC20XL) that is ...not the headphones .

combining a test drive with a "test drive" of the RC-20...clever! ;D the only time i go to GC is to ask them to match the price of an item. trying out gear there is useless.
