Hey Guys! Me again! Hey I was wondering, When I redid my Gretsch I went to the trouble of buying a replacement wiring harness from Gretsch. The only thing I had to do was solder the pups to the pots. I'm using a pair of old D'Armonds. Now here is the problem, when I get too close to the amp I get a hum out of it. If I back away it goes away. I've tried 4 different amps and all do the same thing. What did I do wrong!!!!!

Amps give out a lot of hum from their mains transformer, and pick ups pick it up. Even humbuckers will collect some when close. Are your pickups single coil or humbucker? The wiring also contributes. It depends whether it is excessive compared to other guitars. Are the sounds OK, other than the hum?

No, it sounds OK from a distance, Just as long as I don't get too close to the amp...(5 or 6 feet) I;m OK. I don't get the same reaction from the strat, that's the only reason I ask.
