This was made with a mic, my guitar, bass, and the Boss loop station. IT's intended to have a low-key, ambient feel, and be a bit creepy. If you've got a minute, let me know what you think. www.angelfire.com/ill/nofeeling/index.htmlEDIT: The link has been fixed. Sorry about that!

It has a nice beat and it's great to dance to. I give it a 92. ;D
Okay, seriously, as you stated, it is creepy. Sounds like an E to C progression (relatively speaking) (I don't have perfect pitch). It seems as if (among other things) you are detuning the guitar or the bass to go from E to C. Well, I guess you didn't want us to guess how you did it but instead you wanted our opinions.
As you said, it does seem like ambient music - (though I suggest not playing as background music on your first date with a cute babe).
To me it sounds as if it could be used as a soundtrack for a sci-fi or horror film. (and I mean that as a compliment).

*laughs a bit* Thanks for the compliment. I was thinking about using it as an intro or the groove to something in the same melancholy vein, eventually, but I have a lot of fun with it. I'll let you guys keep guessing before I explain the contents of it. XD I uploaded a new file, one with a bit better EQ and volume leveling, but some distracting clipping on occasion that I can't seem to discover the source of, so I'm just gonna blame my computer. Enjoy.

RandomHero Okay, I have listened to the new rendition. The high end sounds a lot clearer. It seems as though there's a slide guitar in there being used for some really high notes. (like beyond the 22nd fret on the high E string. It almost sounds like glass or crystal). Yeah this new recording has a much better frequency response.

Its very cool and mysterious. It reminds me a bit of the White Album, where Lennon & friends cut loose with multitrack tape. Is there a 'slowed down' track in there? BTW - tape, its that long brown thing that Grandpa used to use well done John

I break, no one's asking what all is in there, so I'm just gonna have to spill it. ;D
First, Wolf, you were close. The "bass" part of that is played on a standard tuned 7-string, with two harmonized parts going on each progression. The second part is played exactly the same on a fretless bass with a 4-string set on it that I've tuned like a 5, and a heavy fuzz effect on it. There's a single repeating F# sus2 chord (I think) through most of it, on each 8 beats. In the first sample for effects are:
Some clicking pennies next to the mic My voice, doubletracked A Dunlop triangle stubby and the metal guard of my mic across the strings (what you said was a slide) My cell phone Some crinkling plastic A bunch of slack-stringed playing with a floyd.
The second sample includes
Some Floyd-induced barre harmonics through heavy distortion and effects Lower-pitched Dunlop plinkery Myself, and some vocal samples from my girlfriend (If you catch these, don't worry, she knew they were taken and they were consentual, but good luck finding them. XD) There's no cell in the second half.
