Hi all. I was looking at the tonemonster 2 wiring scheme (I may yet put that mid humbucker in as well) with the blender removed as I prefer 2 tone controls. I've heard that parallel out of phase is a pretty useless sound, but parallel 1/2 out of phase is quite interesting. I've tried to alter the diagram so that the neck phase switch functions normally in series mode, but in parallel it puts it 1/2 out of phase instead. I think that with the neck on its own, out of phase, parallel selection, the cap is also usefully bypassed by the series wiring as well. I'm fairly confident it will work, but can someone check the diagram? (it goes between the 'A' marks on the switch terminals) I'm also not sure what value cap would be appropriate here cheers Pete

I think that looks fine - and an interesting variation on the design. I havent tried 1/2 phased myself, but it seems like it should work given some experimentation with caps. I think with neck only selected, youll get the cap in parallel mode and without in series mode, so two somewhat different sounds, which should be cool enough.
How will you configure the tone controls? If you like the usual dedicated neck and middle knobs, with no bridge control, just wire them directly across the pups. They will give a very interesting interaction in series mode with the bridge pup. eg, B and N in series, turn down the neck tone, also alows more highs from the brdge to get through, brightening the sound - its good.
The treble bleed cap, I have since found, works better with a 220k resistor in parallel with it.

Are you asking what cap to put on the phase switch for the OoP neck? I use an 0.01uf on two of my guitars with the same mod. This page here should help you a bit www.tdpri.com/wiring5wayStrat.htmscroll down to the one designed by Bill Lawrence, describes how it warms it up but thins it out a bit as you go up in cap value good luck

Thanks for clearing that one up. I think that the cap will be shorted out in neck, out of phase, parallel, since the series wiring connects the neck (-) directly to the output when the other pickups are off.
I will probably have a neck tone control and either the middle or bridge (I haven't decided yet). Some experimentation may be in order for the OOP cap.
cheers
