Is there a gauge wire that is too small to work well when rewiring a guitar? I just rewired one of my guitars using gauge 22 wire, but I've seen some gauge 26 wire online. Would gauge 26 wire work okay?

Usually, 22 or 24 gauge is used. You could use 26 but it may be a pain to work with.
EDIT: And, I forgot, Hello and Welcome, Strattones!

strattones, Hi, and to the NutzHouse! newey just gave you the short answer, here's the locquacious one.... There's no requirement regarding what size the wire must be, nor which size might be "best" for any particular reason. Use what you have, and if you have to buy it, spend your money wisely. You can get good deals when buying in quantity, but don't be penny-wise and dollar-foolish. A spool of perhaps 100 ft. will last you a helluva long time, unless you open a shop and start re-wiring guitars for other players. Just be sure you don't fall for any scams such as "vintage tone" "original specs" and crap like that. It's all the same to the pickups, and to your ears at the other end of the line. FWIW, I too find 26 ga. wire a PITA to work with. Not my cup o' tea, thanks just the same. HTH sumgai
