A friends bass , an Ibanez Sound gear 5 string bass with active electronics , has started buzzing . The problem goes away when he turns down the treble knob . That pot has a circuit board attached to it similar to an Artec or Guitar fetish device . would that pot and device need replacing , or would anyone have an alternate solution ? Thanks Denny

Is it a scratchy kind of buzz rather than a deep 60hz hum? Sounds like some grounding issue somewhere. If the active electronics still work, just with added buzz, then they are likely still OK. Could be a ground wire loose. Is the bridge grounded? you could try clipping a wire from bridge to jack barrel and see if the buzz goes away.

My friend finally got around to bringing his bass back . Your assumption was correct , it was a grounding issue ! The ground wire had a cold solder joint on the circuit board connection . It was still grounded through contact with the metal shielding plate , just not sufficiently for the treble boost cut circuit to work without buzzing ! Thanks again for your help !
