The Kinks "Sunny Afternoon".
Goes from dm to D as it moves from each verse to chorus.
OK, doesn't comply with the major /minor as a relative minor thing, but I reckon most of my contributions fall at that hurdle.

Hmmm, I see that we might be drifting away from the focal point of this thread, namely the movement from a Major to a minor, of the same root chord. If we "allow" a song into this topic simply because it has a minor chord somewhere in there, then something on the order of 50% of all songs ever written would qualify!
Like newey above, I'm not gonna reread this whole thing, but I do recall some years ago that we had a bit of a discussion on what meets the original criterion, and that at that point, a few entries were disqualified - HOTRS being among them. Not that I'm gonna do anything about it, it's not my thread to police up... I'm only making an observation. But if I could be allowed to paraphrase; Dilution is the enemy of focus.

Yep. Got that SG. Good point well made.
I recall that this very point has already been discussed back down the thread some way, but when the OP contributes a minor > major in something like post six or seven, hmmm.

Well, you gotta unnerstan'.... Policing up after JFP is like herding cats - you might get an A for effort, but the grade you earn for accomplishment isn't gonna be so pretty.

It's funny, this thread has been accumulating songs for years, and I never had anything to contribute, now I've had two in a week! Been working on this one in my guitar lessons. It's a simple song but sort of a weird beat to it. Anyway, Boyce and Hart could write a friggin' pop song . This not only has the C to Cm, but also the D to D+(i.e., diminished)right before it. I've been noticing that a lot, taking "a lot" relatively. Not as ubiquitous as the Maj- min thing, but fairly commonly done nonetheless- I just never noticed it. So, like the progression here: D - D+ - C - Cm. This, too, seems to be a common transition, at least one of the few ways one sees diminished chords commonly used. (I generally freak when I see that dreaded "dim") She Words & Music by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart Copyright © 1966 Performed by THE MONKEES D C She, She told me that she loved me. And like a fool I believed her from the start. D C She, She said she'd never hurt me And then she turned around and broke my heart. D D+ Why am I standing here G Missing her Gm D And wishing she were here? D Bm She only did me wrong D Bm I'm better off alone. D C She, She devoured all my sweet love Took all I had and then she fed me dirt. D C She, She laughed when I was crying. It was such a joke to see the way it hurt. D D+ Why am I standing here G Missing her Gm D And wishing she were here? D Bm She only did me wrong D Bm I'm better off alone. F And now I know just why she C Keeps me hangin' 'round. F She needs someone to walk on C Bb So her feet don't touch the ground. C But I love her And I need her I want her Yeah! Yeah! Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah! D C She! Girl you really know how to turn a man inside out! D C She! Sometimes I wonder how I'm gonna stand around here and take it! D D+ Why am I standing here G Missing her Gm D And wishing she were here? D Bm She only did me wrong D Bm I'm better off alone. D Bm She only did me wrong D Bm I'm better off alone. (REPEAT AND FADE)

Not to cause too much havoc, but....
A "plus" sign denotes an augmened chord, not a diminishment or a minor of some sort.
Rather than rehashing the same old, same old, here's a short discussion on the topic:
Constructing Augmented and Diminshed chords
Certainly, the movement of a Major to an augmented is a tension builder. But somehow, I don't see the movement that you described in your text anywhere in the transcription - all I see, for the purposes of this thread, is a G to Gm. This is what I do see:
D -> D+ -> G -Gm
On a single note basis*, we're hearing A -> B♭ -> B -> B♭, which progresses and resolves nicely. But it's not a diminishment. (Sorry, but I can't seem to reproduce the 'flat' symbol.)
EDIT: I've "borrowed" the flat symbols from reTrEaD's post below, and it looks much nicer this way.
And if I'm not mistaken, you'll find this kind of thing in Blues much more often, although not often written as such.
HTH
sumgai
* To enlarge upon the explanation... the progression works because it goes:
5th note of D scale (A); raised (augmented) 5th note of the D scale (B♭); 3rd note of the G scale (B); flatted (minor) 3rd note of the G scale (B♭)

(Sorry, but I can't seem to reproduce the 'flat' symbol.) Let's see if these reproduce. Flat ♭ Natural ♮ Sharp ♯

Well, ya got me there, 'TrEaD.
I looked at the code behind your post, and then at the code behind the code - all I saw was an umlaut-A with a hyphen, an umlaut-A with the Reg symbol, and an umlaut-A accompanied by an 'overscore'. I give up -- how'd you do dat?
EDIT: I swapped the Encoding sets, and found that only UTF-8 gives the correct results. Fortunately, that's my default viewing setting, but I wonder... why did my old method of showing a flat symbol work up until recently? I find it difficult to blame ProBoards for this one....
And how many others use UTF-8 as their default encoding set?
