Saw one of these: www.keithmcmillen.com/products/batt-o-meter/Thought how useful that could be for my active basses to check battery condition, and thought it should be relatively simple to make some sort of LED meter that could work via jackplug. I'm thinking red, yellow, green LED and a circuit to light one of them according to battery strength - we're only talking 9v pp3 type batteries here. So where to start? Any simple circuit ideas folks?

The kind of circuit you're talking about is pretty easy to wrangle.
Easier (and more accurate) is a TRS cable and a multi-meter.

I was thinking a small box you could carry in your pocket - quick plug in - lights up green red or amber, no need for great accuracy and more likely to come with me to gigs than my multimeter which likes to stay at home with the other electrical gear.

Every time i open the back of my bass just to lick the 9v, I think about putting in some kind of push to test batt-o-meter thingy.

But do you do it in the basement, with socks, standing in a puddle of beer? ;D
Kids- don't try this at home!
