This is my second thread.
I have a 1960s Guyatone V6 Viola body 6-string.
I'm in the process of awakening this guitar from a long sleep in its narrow case of way too many latches.
I have space for two single-coil piccups, maximum 3in x 3/4in.
I am looking for something that growls low, and can really catch the sound from inside the body.
What have guitars like this been outfitted with in the past?
I really appreciate all the help I have taken from this site, and I am looking forward to being able to contribute in time.
I am interested in cheap piccups, and am also interested in making my own soon. So ANY advice or insight would be very valuable

I would start and stop at guitarfetish.com. Their GFS pickups get consistently good reviews, come in a number of different styles, and are very cheap. Reading your other thread, I instantly though of something from their filtertron line, though I've never used them and don't know how much growl you can get from them. Of course, I'm in the same country they are, I've never looked into their international shipping policy/pricing.
As for catching the sound from the body - I don't think a magnetic pickup can do that. They catch the vibrations of the strings. Now, if the vibration of the body affects the way those strings vibrate...

Could I not tuck away a highly microphonic piccup somewhere in the body of the guitar to add a fragment of the internal sound?

I don't think a microphonic magnetic pickup will get you anything but squeal. Now, a condenser mic, like those used in the soundhole of acoustic guitar, might work. But it would likely feedback unless the gain was turned way down. And it's going to want some active circuitry, and perhaps a separate output.
I sort of answered this in the other thread. Check the distance between the 2 pickup mounting screws, you need to know that as well.

Here's the dimensions of a standard Strat pickup, in mm. Note the 77mm distance center-to-center on the mounting holes. The coil itself, in inches, is 2.62" X .75". Pretty close to your 3" length, perhaps just short enough that the difference in the radius of the corners won't matter.

I recently bought a few bitz from them, including a Dream 90 pickup (which I'm hoping to install tomorrow(!)) and the shipping prices weren't too bad; the small package ran less than $10 shipping and arrived here in Oz within a week of the order being placed. HTH...

I'm going to do whatever it takes to get these originals back in.

If you in the UK, I can personally reccomend Irongear Pickups (no affiliation)
The blues engine i have in my firebird is the best £35 i ever spent
