Well, actually I did go all the way through the video...I was also around when Free was new... I heard this song on the radio enough to know the changes to this day...
As far as great UK blues guitarists I can think of two words...Rory Gallagher. Case closed.
Rock and Blues are two completely different animals. Blues influenced rock is one thing, but the Blues are the Blues.
More to come...work calls...

These guys fit right in the middle though. That little realm of excelence this is blues rock, easy to go to either side, but hard to hit right. Now its your turn to post a video

OK, I'll see your video...and raise you three
Acoustic
or electric...
Hardest working UK blues guitarist. Enough Said.
...and since we've made the differentiation between blues and blues influenced rock, let's not forget Peter Green...
And I haven't even started on this side of the pond...

Kossoff was a big influence on me, especially that expressive minimalist approach to things...
Plus, Free was the prototype for the bands that followed like Bad company and on to bands like foreigner, GnR etc and others ever since. Plenty of loose swagger...
It is more a blues rock approach...not the purism of Rory who is also great of course (loved his reliced strat before it was 'cool' and faked)
The whole band was great though, the bass line on things like "all right now" is a classic...and those vocals were great...LZ is great but Paul Rogers' vocals were like the anti-plant...none of that blonde haired girly squeal, or historonics about 'bussels in the hedgroves'...macho earthy sexy and to the point...much like Koss' guitar playing...a great unit!
I remember really studying that Kossoff vibrato and tuning in the bends, there is a lot of detail in there that many miss...
But, while we all have our heros, you don't want to idealize just one player..Kossoff was patchy and his Bio is kind of sad...take the lessons learned about economy, vibrato, bending speed and pitch and apply it as required and make it your own...
Most of my Free is on vinyl and no longer with me so haven't been listening for a bit, but I do remember an instrumental from the later 'back street crawler' days perhaps...kossoff on a strat with hendrix influences on a track called something like "one from the box"...

Im going to put this one off. From the last gig before he died..
I just wish i could get the rest of that gig, Back street crawler and bad company on stage at the same time, closest thing ever to a free reunion
