I've been getting into c**ntry music lately, and I've been having a hard time finding chickin pickin licks. Country music seems to be the least documented of all musics when it comes to guitar music.
So I am wondering, does anybody here have any good sources (yourself included?) for chickin pickin? I have done some research, but its been pretty fruitless.

Start at the beginning. That would be Merle Travis. Here's a tutorial: www.howtotuneaguitar.org/lessons/strumming-and-picking/travis-picking/This is pretty much the foundation for most country-style picking, bluegrass aside. Once you get the right hand down, the left falls into place pretty quickly. Not that I'm any good at this, it's something I work on and will continue to do so . . .

Holy over-simplified version, batman!
I almost didn't look any further into Merle Travis after seeing that website, THANK GOD I figured, "Newey's never done me wrong before, why not check it out?"
Now, whered I put that 'coustic?
EDIT:
BTW, Chet Atkins two-hand tapping? 80's Metal is a sham!

Speakin of chickens Check out Lyle and the Large Band I was able to catch them in Phoenix a month or so ago and they did this live. These guys cook. BTW both guitarists played Strats and had Teles as backup. Enjoy IRW Oh Yeah I tend to use a three finger style, thumb index and middle, and i rest my ring and pinky fingers on the pick-guard to keep them oriented. Then i forget about my right hand and play what sounds right. It takes some time to get it going but the more i play a song the more the picking evolves. I find my fingers know what to do if i don't force it. My $.02 Cheers

See if you can find some video of Doug Seven. I think he sells teaching materials from his web site.

Country works, but it works better if the band is a poster boy for A Drum-Free America. Or maybe we should make that 'poster girl'.....
