newey thx!! amplification is coming next! cynical, spot on bro LOL!!!
PS To be frank, currently i screwed shielding completely, i got rid of the aluminium tape. It was not a good job. I will go either the copper paint way, or some tape with conductive adhesive/glue.

I've always had very good luck with the copper tape with the conductive adhesive. It's a bit more coin, but how many times are you going to do it?
I used to do both the paint and the tape, but it was really overkill, so I stopped using the paint.

You know, I don't remember the vocals at 1:27 being in the original...it's always nice to have the family chime in while you're recording, though...
Sounds good, looks good. +1 for your perseverance...
And next, we expect to hear it at 11...

PS: I also thought your Balkan Improvisation (on 2 different guitars) was quite good. You're definitely the fastest Greek on a guitar I've ever seen... ;D

Thanx man,
actually i knew a guy back in college, who was half greek half arab (palestenian i think) (it was back in 1990) and the guy could shred with his 7-string Ibanez, like NOTHING i had ever seen. At some time i considered him the best guitarist in the world, and one of the brightest minds as well, (he had developed his own "guitar" algebra, he was a mathematician). But i think he dumped it all and became a Piano jazz player and teacher (he had a degree in piano as well) and never played the guitar again. Amazing. His name is "Sami Amiri", you can check him out.
PS About the balkan thing, it is mostly music from ex-yugoslavia and bulgaria, a folklore culture which has gotten into me.

just checked "Apenas Del La Rampa", cool man. The intro reminds me a little bit of "Planet Caravan". Cool atmosphere.

Funny...anything from Black Sabbath (or the Pantera redux) was the farthest thing from my mind when we were doing that song... It started out as an exercise to play a sus2 arpeggio on the bass above the octave and just expanded from there. I added the lower root and a 3rd and 7th double stop over the arpeggio just to fill the bass track out. newey's guitar really put the edge on it, as it was a cure for insomnia otherwise... The drum track evolved from playing with EZDrummer and a real percussion track from newey. The flute is just a vsti. What you heard is about the 5th revision I've done with that song. I think it's finished now...
And I checked out what I could find on Sami Amiri. He really is a talented jazz player. If you wouldn't have told me I'd have never pegged him for a shredder.
I listened to the "Improvisation" again this morning and I am intrigued by the whole Balkan thing. Have you got any roots examples you'd like to share?

You can check out folk music from Serbia, or even jazz-folk music from there. The tradition there is huge, and varies from brass bands (gypsy style) of the south up to "tampura" thing (an instrument which looks like a guitar and has the headstock similar to fender) of the north(close to hungary) . Accordeon (Harmonica) is the main instrument and there a loads of virtuosos there. Also ex-yugoslavia was the most rock'n'roll (westernized) culture in the balkans (more than Greece), and they used to have some great bands back in 60's-90s. Their folk music is a nice blend which can stress from middle east and seamlessly melt with classic music from central europe, without you noticing! I will try to make a compilation of some youtube to post.

Thanks for taking the time to pull those clips together. Very interesting. We don't get much exposure to this on our side of the pond.
Sort of explains where Vai's Freak Show Excess came from a little better...
I've been toying with a gypsy minor song for a few years and this offers some valuable insights. Gonna have to do some research on this...
Thanks again. +1 for Music Education 101

Thanx,
Also i'd like to say that the supposed "gypsy" music, is not so gypsy, if you look at it closely. It is just that Gypsies (being mostly self un-employed lol) they prefer being musicians than anything else. Also this music is also unknown here in Greece (strange how this could happen given that we are just neighboring countries).

I followed the entire series of videos from Zoran Starcevic and his sons, starting with the one you posted. I've been a big fan of Spanish and Flamenco guitar for years, but this is a very different turn...at least it is to me... Very cool.
While the vast majority of the pieces are acoustic, either the entire trio or a single player, I did find these two buried in the mix.
You're lucky this guy is Serbian, or you might have lost the Fastest Greek on a Guitar title...
Thanks again for putting these up. My knowledge of music from this region is almost nil. Sad to say, but the only thing most Americans know about Serbia was the war...and that we bombed it...if they remember that much...
And I admit, I've been getting stranger looks then usual from the wife based on my music selections of late... I think she's waiting for me to grab a diklo, hitch the horses to the wagon and head out to make my way telling fortunes...
It is a bit difficult to translate this to bass, though...gotta get one of these damn guitars finished...then learn to play it...but hey, it's a process...

Thanks for the videos, i didn't know the guy was an epic shredder!
There is a huge musical tradition in all eastern-central europe, but especially in Serbia-Bosnia/Hercegovia-Croatia the blend with rock'n'roll is what makes the difference. They can take any folk song and make 10s of jazz/rock covers and then take some heavy metal classic masterpiece and make it sound like its from Kosovo or something ;D They are cool!!!
And now, i am presenting you a GREEK shredder, maybe the King of all Greek shredders of all time:
