I suppose it had to occur to someone eventually to make a PA system with an onboard IPod dock: Ion Audio Tailgater Portable PA for IPodWhile the company is advertising this as a portable unit for tailgating, (and despite the included karaoke mic), American Music Supply is carrying this unit, which suggests it may be of more use to folks who use an IPod for backing tracks while performing. The fact that it's got a rechargeable battery makes it perfect for buskers, too. Only 16W of power, though, so not much use for a real gig unless it was mic'd.

When I worked in Chicago there was a horn player that camped out by the Randolph Street Station with his horns, a small amp and an iPod containing all the backup for his busking endeavors. With the extra effort he always drew a crowd and eventually made enough to produce an CD...which was also for sale next to the amp with the iPod plugged into it.
