Hi all. I picked up a fender jazz bass u.s. 75 reissue used. There is a humming noise when i play which goes away when i touch the control plate . I removed the control plate and all the wires seem to be in tact . Any ideas ? thanks

im assuming the control plate is metal an grounded. if so, i would ground the strings if they arent already

ok how do you go about grounding the strings ? i am pretty handy when it comes to doing set ups but the electronics thing just isnt my bag . thank you

grounding the strings is done by putting a wire that runs from the bridge from the backplate to the ground. Most guitars should already have that line.
