This was the first guitar I ever modded- a Yamaha EG-112C. This was a couple of years before I found this site, so it was never shielded. This is a Strat clone, but without the canoe-style jack plate, it has a side jack instead. And, the body differs enough that a regular Strat pickguard has to be cut down to fit. You'll notice my not-very-well-done surgery in the photos. This used to have ceramic pups and a black pickguard, with "el cheapo" ceramic SCs. Very noisy. I was going to use the Entwhistle noiseless SCs, but as I reported elsewhere, they will not fit this body, as they are too deep with their stacked-coil arrangement. So, a set of decent Alnico Vs instead, and a shielding job. It's reasonably quiet as a result, much improved over what it was. I bought a clear Strat pickguard, and performed the surgery to fit it to the Yamaha. Then, I sprayed the inside of the clear guard with spray adhesive, and made a collage of old motor racing ticket stubs, pit passes, and so forth. I used some old Indy 500, Mid-Ohio, and Cleveland Grand Prix ticket stubs and pit credentials. The pix don't do it justice, I can't override the flash and still get a good image in the dark basement. The collage actually looks real nice in room light. The wiring is stock Strat. One ought to have a normal Strat guitar in the arsenal, methinks . . . But, this is GuitarNutz2, so there was a minor modification. The mid pup tone control was moved to the bridge, and separate tone caps were used for the bridge and neck tone pots (.022µf and .033µf, respectively). Otherwise, straight stock. The Alnico pups are a huge improvement over the ceramics, much smoother, and more like a Strat ought to sound. And, I think the pickguard collage is just plain fun. I have to get up an amp (low power is the key here), but this is going in my office for those "I'm bored and it's after hours" jams.

Very clever idea on the pickguard. Really makes the guitar stand out.
You've alluded to this guitar on several occasions. Nice to see it in the flesh.
And an office guitar? Man, am I in the wrong business. Gotta +1 you just for that.
Happy Trails

Very nice looking guitar, the scratch-plate is a nice subtle addition of colour and pattern to the plain wood....certainly the kind of guitar I'd play. Reminds me a little of this 'steam punk' clockwork guitar and you could do similar things with a clear scratch plate too... But it is nice to put these memento's to use isn't it...I dare say I could do something interesting with some photographs perhaps....maybe a sunset guitar... LOL
