Decided to clean up the bridge for high gain/distortion, put try to keep the P-90 tone on my SX LP project "Penny". I didn't want anything hotter than what I had and GFS (guitarfetish<DOT>com) added a vintage-wound 180 since I last looked at their page. For $33 plus the black switch and black metal jackplate, I thought what-the-hay. 8.8k bridge and 7.8k neck don't match like the Wilkinson set, but with a little raising and lowering plus playing with the volume knobs this baby sounds killer. Goes from creamy glass cleans to dirty old-AC/DC tones, and can even handle metal. I'm kinda interested in their single coils and some of their HB's now!

I've used quite a few GFS pickups, and liked them all. The dual-lipstick tube HB is very bright (for a HB), I have one of those on a Strat-style guitar and play the heck out of it. I have one of the "Dream 90" (P90 in a HB size)in my travel guitar and like that as well. I just put one of the GFS Retrotron "Memphis" pickups in my Epi LP Jr, but no verdict on that yet as it's still at the tech being set up.
No experience with their Strat-type SCs (yet).
We've had speculation here that the GFS pickups are made by Artec. Many of the GFS pickups do look identical to Artecs.

Mmm, the Dream 90. Could find its way into my Ibanez semi-hollowbody. I never said never with that guitar...did I?

I have a GFS D180 in the bridge of a a semi-hollow. I like it a lot. It has a big brassy sound for clean tones and works well distortion. B4 you change your guitar pickups, have you tried a very low capacitance cable of ~200pF? It can make all the difference by extending the highs and reducing the resonant peak emphasis -- especially with lower inductance PUP's. The split tone on your Vox is probably fairly low inductance -- as would be the combined PUP tones.

Haven't tried the 180, but have a Dream 90 in the neck of a Tele partscaster. It's a very, very nice pickup. GFS is a really cool bargain pickup maker!

BT23-
Hello and Welcome to G-Nutz2!
Since I last posted in this thread, I've had 9 months or so of playing with the GFS Retrotron "Memphis" model in my Epi LPjr. It's a vast improvement in the guitar compared with the stock Epi HB. It nails the jangly tones of a Filtertron, but mellows nicely with the tone turned down a skosh.
