Okay, this is the second humbucker guitar I've worked on now, where every tone pot I try is very notched in function! Specifically, all the action is between the bottom and about 1.5 on the dial!
The closest thing to working okay, has been an A250K pot. I've tried linear and audio in 1 Meg, 500K and 250K values and also experimented with some parallel resistance to alter things.
What the heck is going on? Am I in a weird twilight zone where pots hate humbuckers?

Oh, and I tried a reverse audio taper 50K pot. The taper actually felt awesome, but of course there was not enough resistance at the top of the dial.
Perhaps C500Ks are in order.

My current favorite 'Pot-du-jour' is 250k audio-taper no-load, for tone pots and simple blenders. It gives good control in the 0 to 25k range at 0 to 5 on the dial, adds some more up to 9 then an extra bit as it cuts out at 10.

I'll have to try them - in all my exploits, I've still never tried a no-load, except a tone-switch. I'll maybe try and convert one of my many 250Ks tomorrow. I'm sure there's a good thread on that around here somewhere! Thanks for the suggestion John.

I'm a bit rusty but I think there's a mod that involves a resistor inserted between the vol and tone pot. You sacrifice a part of the bottom range and the ramining range is stretched across the taper. So if you never set your tone knob below say 3 this might be useful.

Totally have that floor resistor in my strat - love it!

Tried the no-load today; did the trick! Thanks!
