Hey everyone, been a lurker for a minute, however I'm new to posting here. My question is not so much relevant to this one guitar, just wondering if there is something in the forest that I am missing for the trees. I have a phase switching combined with a coil cut to select the active coil on a split humbucker. Now, if on a HH guitar, there was an on/off/on coil cut affecting both HBs, to select inside coils/humbucking/outside coils, the phase switch would still select the opposite coil when OoP? So you would have bridge NCoil and neck SCoil in phase, but bridge SCoil and neck SCoil OoP?

Hello, and welcome to GN2.
What you describe is a good thing. So if you select inner or outer coils when in phase, and if you have arranged the coils so that this is a hum cancelling combo, then in out of phase, you get either coils nearest the bridge, or coils nearer the neck. These have the same polarity and are also hum cancelling when out of phase. All this happens if you wire the phase switch first after the pickup, then the coil cut switch..

I had been wracking my brain trying to figure out how to do split and phase on each HB with the simplest switching until i found the on/off/on idea from another diy wiring site. trying to figure out how it would interact with some of my other positions, that was tripping me up.

I am trying to implement the inner/HB/outer coil split with the anastasio wiring on the 1728 site. as it stands now my guitar has the phase switch coming before the series/parallel switch, could i either continue the bridge's + from the ser/par switch or continue the bridges ground from the coil split switch in this other diagram? am i coming at this wrong? I am in the process of drawing a diagram for my guitars specific wiring right now, but can only do it by hand at the moment... my guitar is an Ibanez RG1XXVFPK with HSH pickup config, Dimarzio/IBZ INF3 humbucker, INFS3 single coil, INF4 humbucker in neck middle and bridge respectively, with a 3 way blade for neck, both, and bridge HBs, an on/of/on OoP toggle for the middle SC, a phase switch/coil select for the bridge HB, a coil split toggle that splits both HBs at once, and series/parallel in a vol push pull, TBX tone with a .0022uf cap on the 1 meg side to cut bass. also sorry i cannot figure out how to make the images larger, or if they will post like how I am currently seeing them, but www.1728.org/guitar11.htm is where i got the wiring diagram, the other coil cut one was saved on my computer. any advice appreciated   |
