www.deanguitars.com/query?upc=819998139919 Made in Korea, 7-string, EMG active pus, Floyd Rose, 25.5" scale, 24 frets. Overall i felt too strange with the 7-string. Almost struggled to play the minimal. There was a novice guy next to me playing a strat, and i could not follow him!!! So that was a negative experience. About the guitar quality : that was a bigger shock. Loose frets grabbing strings beneath, extreme uneven buzzing, unevenly installed nut, rough frets, damage in the finish.... And the guitar costs about 700 euros, same price i got the Made in China ibby arz800 two years back, and the gap in quality is almost chaotic. Admittedly this was a b-stock item, but too many problems all at once just seem too much. I found all that in just 10 minutes... i dont wanna imagine what would happen if i took this home. So, two things of consideration : - will i be able to play the 7-string? or am i too old for that? - should i look into the ibanez camp better? In the whole Athens down town, i found only one 7-string guitar to play!! And this was in the bigger chain in Greece, who also represent fender. I even went to the Ibanez dealer but he didnt have any! I went to the ESP dealer, no chance there neither.

You can`t just take 7 string guitar and play it instantly without adapting yourself to neck shape,bigger body etc...It needs a little time.But after one month of playing it will play natural like 6 string.Believe me.  If neck is too weird for you then you could try 7 string Ibanez with their thin wizard neck profiles.It is all about taste,like in a regular 6 string guitar. If you like more Strat necks over Les Paul then go for Ibanez thinner profile ones. Best regards. Here is what Steve Vai sad on 7 String guitar and his first thoughts to chill you up.  |

were you ok with the floods? horrible stuff lately in the balkans man.... Bulgaria had 10 ppl dead in the last week or so.... WTF is happening?
Anyway, It's like you read my mind, the guitar I have in mind, (but cant seem to justify the investment since i play mostly songs to my kids) is the UV70p, the green dot 7-string universe reincarnated in 2013. We'll see.
Do you still have and dig the Schecter ?

Hi,thanks for asking.I was lucky one.My city even if it is on the river was by some miracle spared of floods,all cities and small countrysides near my town where all flooded.In Bosnia I know that damage is big,and few people is drowned also,but Serbia was suffered even a lot of more. Price is the typical for better built middle professional class guitars. Ibanez UV70P-BKIt is not too big ,but not a small also.My advice would be to spare some extra cash cause guitars even 300 euros cheaper than this is very noticeably less playable,and finish,electronic,hardware parts looks in most cases cheaper. I was Schecter lover even know,the sound is outrages from any Hellraiser series model.I switched to ESP LTD H-1007FR which is almost the same guitar as Schecter Hellraiser C-7FR as wood type and even construction concerned,but scale length is as normal 25,5" and that for my average hand size fell better for soling over 12 fret for stretching legato solo phrases. That is the only reason why I switched the guitar. And I was lucky to found person who would buy it,cause in my country very few play 7 string guitar.You can count them on fingers. This UV70P is very shred-able guitar,neck in hand is very nice for those who never played 7 string guitar.Like any Vai`s guitar it is also very straty.I like that,but I can live with little bit beefier neck. The only reason why I had not bought by myself is Basswood body which I do not like at all.Nice sweet midrangish tone for solos,but for rhythm very thin for my taste.I just love massive low end of mahogany and can`t live without it... It`s all about tastes at the end. Best regards. |

Hey just a question about the hellraiser, was it heavy to hang on your shoulders while standing ? How would you compare it to the LDT you have now? Or even the Ibanez in question? And another question, did your hellraiser have the normal EMGs or the pickup switching ones? I dont have big hands myself, near eddie-van-hallen range, and the 26.5 scale puts me into thoughts. I would love the tone of the hellraiser. I already have 1 treble-ish vintage Aria strat (DMZ fasttracks, chopper), one ultra treble-ish Carvin DC135 1988 (DMZ superdist HB/air norton s), one 100% midrange Kramer 210 also from 1980's (SeymourD livewires classic/metal), and one bassy Ibanez ARZ800 mahogany (EMG 81/60) . I would love the coil split option of the hellraiser 707TW pickup. I really like the EMGs on my ibby, they have the wildest squlies harmonics of all the rest combined. Were the 707TW as easy for squelies ? |

I ended up with the Ibanez UV70p from Thomann.
The seller is horrible, worst company I ever dealt with. Even the lousiest greek seller would be better than Thomann. I lost my time with them.
The guitar has good woods, good neck, good fretwork and sound (in the meantime I entered the camp of thought that the woods are VERY important), good pups and good hardware, although some screws and bolts are too fragile. But the assembly quality was horrible. They mist some really f***cked up CNC machines there in Indonesian plant. Neck pup slanted, neck heel protruding into the pup cavity and unstable neck/body mounting were among the problems. Fixed them all with the help of this site, jemsite and a co-patriot of yours from Kovin, whom I met in jemsite.

Yes wood is important,so craftsmanship...I wanted to buy UV70p myself,but with crazy luck I stumble upon used Music Man JP7 for half price.Sold my previous guitar,so I pay the same as you.I`m finally very satisfied with guitar playability,simply notes come by itself.Fretboard and neck are like stratocaster just with 7 string,very very good for speed playing,and access to higher frets is gorgeous... I know want to make new pickup scheme for my new guitar,probably I would sell the pickups.I wanted something more original in them.Guitar sounds too much like John Petrucci WHICH IS NOT A BAD THING,but I just want something different and mine. I will post here some pictures of guitar in a few days. And I`m glad you fixed all problem about guitar,in the end it is great guitar for the money.I didn`t expect that from Thomann thou... Is your musicman much better than the hellraiser? Is the scale 25.5"? Cause I really liked the hellraiser, it seemed superb. This particular one had some problems, that's why I didn't get it.
The uv70p is also exactly like a strat with 7-strings and much better higher fret access. I can play riffs and not getting tired, with Gibson-ish necks I get tired early.

Hellraiser is a beast of guitar,I like the sound of the wood and weight in tone very much.I miss it...But I hated 26.5" scale,simply I have average hands and I find very hard for me to play all the time fast.The other thing was baseball bat wide neck,great feel for rhythm,but for solos like you holding someones neck.And last thing that annoys me is access to 24th fret.Play there for 5 minutes and you wish never to go there. I liked big frets very much,and hated EMG`s in there all the time. JP7 solved all playability problems.Wood quality is even better,whole body resonate like acoustic guitar.The only I do not like is tonal quality of basswood,very sweet and soft with abrasive mids. I will try to compensate to find some aggressive pickups that will expand low end and high end as well to open the tone a little bit,but without it being muddy or harsh... I`m in negotiations with some Russian guy who making pickups,he will make me custom pickups with everything I need I suppose,and he is not very expensive.200$ for both pickups,keep in mind that they are 7 string.Bareknuckles had cost me 3 times more.. |

Oh,no...Hellraiser neck is in Les Paul style,especially at higher frets it becomes ridiculously bigger.But guitar was built well,and had bad butt tone,even with those ugly EMG`s.I love direct tone of active pickups but can`t stand those fizzy high frequencies and too much compressed tone.Even I`m metal player I love to add in solos and certain parts dynamics in playing.Simply pickups talking differently,not just quieter..Well we all know that of course. The guy Ilya Fokin,check his facebook www.facebook.com/fokinpickups?fref=ts , and website www.fokinpickups.ru/ .Website is on Russian,google translate will help. He is really good guy,and he`s being making pickups very long,it`s a family job in a fact. |

My problem with EMGs is frankly ... the noise. At least in my flat, they are much noisier than Dimarzios. Maybe I am deaf, but I really cannot hear any "sterile" tone or compression in them. As a matter of fact I consider the EMG 60 a very nice sounding neck pup, for both cleans and distorted. I used to have (arghh still have) the Seymour Duncan livewire metal, and this indeed is a bad active pup, is so mid-boosted and compressed and so loud that it kills all clean sounds.
Thanx for the pointer to the Russian pup maker. He also has a nice surname "Fokin"-roight!

EMG`su uglavnom veoma tisi od bilo kojeg pasivnog magneta.Mozda kod tebe nesto nije dobro zalempljeno?Prije nego sto sam se bavio snimanjem nije mi nista smetalo,ali sad kad svakodnevno analiziram gitarske tonove i zvukove uopste,njihove harmonijsko ponasanje i pojas u kojem se nalaze onda su krenule posteno da mi bodu usi. Pasivni magneti su prljaviji,ali imaju vise duse,i vise pjevaju,i bogatiji su u harmonicima.To je moje iskustvo do sad. |

I like D-Sonic very much,the only thing I do not like is high end.For solos is little bit high end sharp,but not too much... But neck I do not like at all,suited more for Jazz/Progressive metal...Very deep,mellow tone and all in mids.I simply can`t stand it.It sings a lot with single note,but when playing fast solos it simply don`t cut enough for more aggressive metal music. |

I played a little with 81/85 and in my home studio environment,they were pretty noiseless compare to any passive.But you are right 707TW possess even less noise. On my JP7 D-Sonic sound very good but very noisy from time to time,but neck Ar Norton modification by John Petrucci is dead quiet. Do you utilize 3-phase mains power? Here is the thing: In the morning all my pups (except the Blaze single coil) are dead quite, even with heavy gain and noise reduction to minimal. In the nights and with the guitar at a certain direction, EMGs (especially 81) start to hum like crazy. There is a power distribution system and a street light just 5 meters away from this room. Maybe this is related. *All* my Dimarzios and Duncans (livewire) are dead quite no matter the time of day or the orientation of the guitar. I tested in some other room and the problem (EMG 81/60) is not so intense. There is good reason Seymour Duncan advertise their blackouts as : By "other" theyt mean of course EMG. So I am not the first one to notice. |

For my humble studio it helped me a lot actually.Besides filtering noise it doing tremendous job for saving gear/computer when storming.But it will not help with your EMG i guess. When i record JP7,I have to get out of any electric device and noise is gone.D-Sonic is also noisy as hell.But it`s cheap trick and do not cost nothing. |
