Hello all! I want to do this type of wiring: www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=2h_2v_3w_2sas...but with a 'master coil split pot' and a master tone in stead of 2 split pots & no tone at all. Can anyone steer me towards a suitable schematicless(!) diagram -similar to the above link- and explain how the 50's Wiring would effect this? Would 50's wiring even be a possibility? Would it ONLY allow for 50's wiring..? Any thought appreciated :-) |

So for a "master" split knob you'll need a stacked pot - also called a dual gang, or sometimes stereo. Then you'll wire it exactly like in the SD drawing, except the two split pots will be physically stacked on top of each other. I notice, though, that both of these HBs are splitting to the same coils, which usually won't be hum-cancelling. The easy way to fix that would be to choose one pickup, and on the split knob instead of bending that lug over to touch the case (or otherwise grounding it) connect the black wire there - probably by running a wire from where it connects to the V pot.
An actual master tone on this would necessarily come after the switch, therefore after the V pots, and therefore I think would be like 50s wiring by default. You could use another stacked pot here, with each half across one pickup and wired before the V pots to get either 50s or "modern" wiring. That would be wired just like any other LP, except the T pots are stacked.
Of course, you could also use a concentric pot in either (or both) of those places. Wiring would still be the same, except you'd retain the individual controls. That is, you could have 2 splits and 2 Ts without any drilling.

You'd obviously have to find the one that actually does what you want. I'd probably go through mouser, mostly because I already have an account there and they have a pretty good selection. |
