Hi guys, have a puzzler, for me at least. FYI this is in a (fat) strat.
The subject line says it all - is it possible to both connect a neck pickup to whatever is selected on the 5-way, AND simultaneously invert the phase of said pickup? I couldn't think of a way to do it easily using normal DPDT switches.
Any ideas? Obviously if the switch were turned on when the neck pup was selected on the 5-way, you'd be shorting it out and get no sound, but that's ok with me :-)
Thanks! Geoff

Well I may have answered my own question after a bit of thought: if I connect the pickup to the switch common terminals, then just connect either output to where they need to go, I think it will get me there.
Not sure if I can attach a pic on this forum or not, at least from my phone it doesn't look like it :-)

Yep. It's definitely possible. Sounds like you've probably got it. Post a pic when you get a chance. If you can upload it somewhere else from your phone, you should be able to link it here.

This: I haven't worked it out formally yet, but my thinking is that a 3-way DPDT On-On-On toggle could get you neck on in phase, neck on OOP, or bypass to the 5-way setting. Just saying-if you haven't bought the switch yet . . . Edit: Just realized that connecting direct to the jack would, of course, bypass the controls- which you might or might not want to do. But connecting to the Vol pot +, or to the 5-way common, will insure that the controls work on the neck as well. Or, bypass the controls if you wish.

Thanks guys - that's exactly what I did. Still can't figure out how to post a pic from my phone, but newey basically showed my schematic anyway. The trick is connecting the pickup leads to the switch common terminals vs one of the poles. Haven't had a chance to put it back in the guitar yet, as the lacquer is still drying, but I think this ought to work. I'll repeat back in a week.
