Hello, I'm working on a wiring diagram and wondered if the pros here might take a look. - I'll have 3 mini humbuckers which run to a DPDT switch. - The DPDT will select between either bridge & middle, or middle & neck. - The output of the DPDT will be routed to a blend pot. Assuming the bridge & middle have been selected, rotating the blend fully left will be just bridge. Middle would be a 50/50 mix, and right would be just middle. - From there, it would be routed through a standard tone & volume. Would this diagram work for that?

ktho- Hello and Welcome to G-Nutz2!The switching and blend controls in your diagram are fine. The Vol control needs to have its third lug grounded. You should, however, read this: Blend and Pan Pots

Thanks for the info! After doing some browsing, I came across this blend pot. Judging by the reviews, I think it's the correct type.

Yeah, the reviews do make it sound that way. The fact that it says "blend-balance" pot gives me pause, because the pots ChrisK described as "pan" pots are used as speaker balance controls. As I posted a few years ago, I got burned by pots claimed to be true blend pots, when I put the meter to them they were panners. The thrust of the thread there was that we pretty much concluded that buying the Fender OEM part no. was the only way to be sure. Of course, that was a while ago, and I haven't looked around for one lately. IOW, you may be the guinea pig on this.

Assuming that Amazon has actually listed the correct part number, its datasheet seems to indicate that it is, in fact, a true blend pot. Pounding this into a 500K pot will skew the taper a bit, but it should work well enough. I'd like to mention also that the switching could as easily be done with an SPDT. You don't actually have to switch the M pickup at all, but if you've got the DP, and make it look like you're not wasting a pole... The way you've got it drawn there, the M switches ends of the pot. If you've got it in (say) the B+M position, with the pot all the way to the M, and then flip the switch, you'll jump straight to the N. Maybe that's intentional. Maybe it'll work better in practice. Seems kinda weird to me, though.

ktho,
Welcome to The NutzHouse!
As I was reading your post, I was struck by this line:
My first reaction was: And thus was born... The Quack-O-Caster!!
But of course, you then bring in the blender as a quasi-pup selector, so this idea will have to wait for someone else to bring it to fruition. Oh well.

ktho- Hello and Welcome to G-Nutz2!The switching and blend controls in your diagram are fine. The Vol control needs to have its third lug grounded. You should, however, read this: Blend and Pan PotsI can recommend the Bourns blend pot where in the middle it's like a pickup selector where bit pickups are at 100%. They are in parallel so you add there output and divide by 2 which began should be close to panning all the way to one or all the way to the other. There are other pan pots that give you s drop in output in the centre because both pups are at 70%. Add the output of your pickups divide by 2 then multiply by 0.7 and you will see this is no good for a guitar, but fine for speakers, as you will get a very noticeable drop in output using a pan pot.

I got SSS, series parallel on middle pup makes bright or neck humbucker when on and no load blend pot to mix bridge and neck - 0 is 50/50 blend and 10 is no blend. It allows all 3 pups to be selected too. That's gonna give you great sounds and yes you will have a strat that sounds lie one with the quack!
