It was up a few days ago, and then suddenly the other night it was down. Any ideas?

No idea, Cat. Unless John Atchley finally gave up renewing the dot-com url.

The lion's share of it is already here, in one guise or another. There are several threads exploring the original Mike Richardson mod from the old site, for example. And the issues of shielding have been thoroughly dissected in these pages. JohnH has reposted his diagrams from the original site as well. So, we have a good deal of continuity, although it is certainly organized differently than the original site.

I'll have to call him. I'd gladly take over the name and domain. I have hosting myself, and would be happy to host. Is he around on the boards here?

Does anyone have any contact info for John Atchley? I'd like to reach out to him and see if there is anything I can help him with. Let him know I am not looking for money by any means, just to keep his great content alive.

Defo, and, the irony of this is that I was just getting back into this in a big way. I had been gone for quite some time, and then I started working my way back into it, only to then find myself mentoring a young man who wants to be a professional luthier. He is doing this special school project and is busy researching all sorts of lutherie information. He might be joining the boards in a bit.

To answer the question; no, John Atchley was not a member here. (Or at least not in his own name.) I know he linked to us in the very beginning, 10 years ago, but I don't know if he kept up with our doings or not.
As I recall, John was an Aussie of some sort, I don't recall if he ever actually stated which city...
Searching on John's name returns billyons* of results for U.S. citizens of that name, but nothing for Australia, even when I include that as a search term.
Thinking to look at cached pages, I see that Google has a image-less page dated 3 Feb 2016. Looks pretty bad without those images.... The WayBack Machine has nothing for guitarnuts.com, a disclaimer at the bottom says that they were prevented from crawling the site, or something like that.
And finally, looking up the Domain Registration records, we see that the site's registration was not due to expire until June 4th of this year. That leads me to wonder if John took the site down because he got tired of the clowns that seemed to crawl out of the woodwork every so often. Or he could've just plain taken sick in the physical sense, and decided he could no longer manage, I dunno.
Chesh, if you have better contact information, perhaps you might find answers that are not (currently) findable on the web. (Or as ChrisK would express it, they're all bound up in a tight ball of Unobtainium. )

* billy-ons is how Carl Sagan pronounced billions. Was kind of hilarious, the way he emphasized it.

As I recall, John was an Aussie of some sort, I don't recall if he ever actually stated which city... I don't recall anything about John Atchley being Australian. John Hewitt certainly is, though. Random Hero might have had contact with Mr Atchley, since RH was the one who created this forum after a hacker trashed the forum on the GN site. RH seldom visits here these days but if you have contact information for him, you might use it to ask if RH has any info about Atchley. Just a thought...

RT-
Randomhero has not responded to a couple of emails sumgai and I sent a few years back. Our emails didn't get bounced back to us, so the email address must still be valid. Whether he checks it or not is unknown.
However, when RH first stopped back here after he appointed sg as his successor, I recall a couple of PMs he and I had back and forth- this was when SG made me an admin, RH had to make the change with ProBoards as the originator of the site. As I recall, RH told me that he did not have any contact with JA, and never had, apart from letting JA know that RH was setting up this forum after the original GNutz was hacked.
RH was apparently in grad school at the time he set this forum up, at a time when he had more free time.

I thought Id look around the net to see if there were any images from GN posted elsewhere: Here is a screen-shot of the front page: Strat wiring: The original Tone Monster: And the Strat Lovers Strat wiring diagram. Ive seen a better higher-res image of this one. Will look again later. All of the above are saved on my Photobucket, so definately safe long-term at least until somewhere around lunchtime!...

Last I recall, John lives over in Ft. Worth, but that was a while ago. Not sure now, but it's definitely worth trying to contact him and seeing about the site. This was pretty recent. For all we know, he might not even know about it.
On a related note, I know that a lot of the info from the site is spread out here on the forum, but, still, it was an excellent repository of info, and very well organized, and, as such, we shouldn't let it slip away.

Seeing that note about JA not being in Australia (funny how I came up with that, but then I've got an excuse (and it's only distantly related to being judgmental)), but instead in the Dallas/Ft Worth area, I re-checked Bing and Google. I see only two persons noted; one died 6 years ago, and the other is on the lam after ignoring court orders to stop scamming people in a fake credit-repair business. Doesn't sound like our particular JA.
Those of you with LinkedIn or Facebook accounts might wanna check there, I don't have access to either site.

I love mystery detective novels! I used the original GN diagrams for this strat bridge pup tone pot mod with just one additional capacitor between 5th and 4th lugs, where the rest of the tone pot functions remain stock, and still the middle position has its normal tone adjustment.

So crazy mystery here, I am going all stalker on John. There is a point where this could get weird so apologies in advanced John once you read this.
I emailed guitarnuts.com@proxy.dreamhost.com which is the privacy proxy on the domains whois database info. I got the full error back in return. The error was that jsatchley@charter.com is not a valid recipient. It looks like he used a company called Charter Communications which has TV and internet service in California, Missouri, Texas, and Michigan. Texas is looking hotter, North Richland Hills or Weatherford maybe. I hope the guy is okay, I'd love to help him out if anyone else knows how to get a hold of him.

Those of you with LinkedIn or Facebook accounts might wanna check there, I don't have access to either site. FB search for "John Atchley Texas" brings a couple of hits. Judging from their profile pages, though, I don't think I should be the one to reach out.

Do we know his age, his current or past business field(s), and whether he used to work for the military?

Years ago I had called him and had spoken to him when the forum was first hacked. I know he's out there, or was at least. I'll see if I can reach him again.

Sorry in advance... totally noob here.
CheshireCat, did you have any success?
I'm desperately trying to get the Pignose G40V mod that was posted on guitarnuts.com. I wonder if any of you guys have it?
Thanks.

tomazeera- Hello and Welcome to G-Nutz2!I don't recall the mod or the diagram, but I did some digging. Here's what I could find, this thread goes back to the very early days of the Board here, and there's some discussion of the original guitarnuts mod, but it never really said what the mod was, and there's no diagram. But we may be able to recreate it if you know exactly what it was supposed to do. guitarnuts2.proboards.com/thread/2754/pignose-g40vThere are a few other threads from way back when dealing with your amp, including a thread about speaker upgrades, apparently highly recommended with this amp. Also, I would suggest starting a new thread in the "Amps" section to ask your questions; hanging it on the end of this Cofffeehouse thread isn't likely to garner a response.

I used "Pignose G40V" and went back 5000 days, searching all our sub-boards.
Since we speak ill of the folks at ProBoards often enough, we ought to give credit as well- the Board's search function is night-vs-day better than it was with their old forum software.
