Sad to note that Buckwheat Zydeco is now marching with the Saints:
buckwheatzydeco.com/#news
Zydeco music is, somewhat more or less, on a par with creole, Cajun, swamp, and other forms of music centrally located in southern Louisiana and points westward. Ask our preeminent thread derailer for his thoughts on how well this kind of music is received in S.A.
R.I.P. BZ, I'll be cueing up some Bayou Boogie tonight in yer honor.
EDIT: I figured that I'd better post a video or two. Here's some live action that gets the party goin':
But ol' Buckwheat, he knew what the blues were all about too. If you ever wondered where Jimi got the inspiration for his best known tune of all time, check this out:
As usual, YouTube is your friend.

Thanks for the nod, sg.. We are in the middle of some fast & furious weather locally, (Adelaide, South Australia) so I haven't exactly been glued to the 'pute in my usual fashion.. As far as beautiful, but rainy and storm-battered South Oz goes, for the past about 12 years we (the Creole CowboyZ) have found that the genre has always gone over extremely well with the patrons...our biggest problem has always been trying to attract people who have previously been UNAWARE of it.. Time and again over those years, we would play a gig to capacity dance floors, only to be approached afterwards by members of the audience who would compliment us on the music, but also admit that they had never heard of it before...we have always seemed to be 'unofficial promoters' as well as musicians. The music itself (go listen, if you haven't done so before!) is repetitive at times, granted, but in the same breath also full of emotion and enjoyment...as a band that has always had between 6 & 8 people on stage, we always have found it to be the most fun thing to play; the fact that we are all having such a good time doing it, comes over to the audience, spills into the dancing, and bounces back at us.... ...sometimes that's particularly helpful when you're as old as I am and bashing away at an 8-minute number in the middle of an hour-long set.. With live venues dwindling here, and a number of us also involved in other musical pursuits, we don't get to play together as much as we once did, but I do feel that the music itself has a lot to do with the fun we all experience when on stage...and certainly the fact that we can sometimes not be in the same room for a couple of months at a time, yet still feel like it was 'yesterday' when we get together again. Enough for now...gotta go check that the cat hasn't blown away... ...and leave enough space for someone to derail this thread..
