Yes, it finally happened - newey and I met for an evening over some mighty good fish, and bit of dive-bar trolling.
Your erstwhile co-Administrator had a professional work-life klatch out here in Microsoft-land, so we made arrangements to meet up last night, just before he had to get on a plane and go back home. Seattle is still standing, but that wasn't so much due to any robustness on its part, but more likely because of a strong lack of robustness on our parts. Sigh. I can tell you all right now that Youth is wasted on the young, make no mistake about that.
To keep it simple, we didn't discuss anything about The NutzHouse at all, so yer all safe.... at least fer now. We just filled up on some of the best fish available on the West Coast, and then went looking for some live music. Sadly, I hadn't been into Seattle proper for at least a couple of years, and not for the night life in probably 5 years at least. So many live-music venues have closed up shop, I was almost in tears to find "old friends" gone for good.
We finally did hit on a place called The Shanty, one that's been standing since the Korean Police Action ended. The music was not rock-n-roll, to be kind, but the spirit of the patrons was in full force regardless. I had played there many years ago, back when I still had the cojones to fool people (as well as myself) into thinking that I know how to play an instrument, and it was like Old Home Week for me. We didn't stay long, newey had a plane to catch at Oh Dark Thirty, so we called it a night right after the sidewalk starting rolling up. I know, wimpy. But when you get to our age(s), you really have to be a masochist to beat up your body in an attempt to emulate what you could do to yourself when you were still only 20 or 30 years old. Such shenanigans tend to make for an uncomfortable life in one's advanced years, what with all the "normal" aches and pains brought on by getting old in the first place.
However, being able to grouse about one's aches and pains is a privilege that is denied to many, so I'm not complaining.... well, not very loudly, that is.
Enough of that hoorah. Back to work people, we've got a NutzHouse to run, don't we?

Did you see the spoonman down at Pike Place? I didn't in three visits and I so wanted to. I wonder if he's still alive, or if he ever existed (or even if there's more than one...)

You'd have to ask newey if he actually got to the Pike Place Market at all, but I suspect his "real life" duties probably left precious little time for that kind of thing. Me, I used to catch his act once in a great while, but not for several years now.
Wikipedia lists no date of death for him, so presumably he's still at it. However, if he truly lives in Port Townsend, then a ferry ride (each way, and at no small expense) is gonna eat into his performing time, to be sure. Might explain why he doesn't come around so often anymore.

Each time I went, I probably missed him while standing transfixed by the guys chucking fish across their stall. We're planning another road trip for next June. (The BIG LX!) Seattle is one small but definite part because I need to hook up with some friends made while working at Renton. Still undecided where to go. (Big country!)

Unfortunately, no Spoonman, or Pike Place Market visit, although I walked by the place before it opened during a pre-dawn morning constitutional. And sg has succinctly summarized our visit.
I did play hooky from work duties for a few hours and went to see the the EMP museum, which was very cool. Clapton's "Brownie" was on prominent display, and the history of the guitar exhibit had one of about everything you'd want to see, from the Rickenbacker "Frying Pan" lap steel, through the Broadcaster, original '54 Strat, etc. I could have spent hours but didn't have hours to spend . . . I'd say Mr. Allen's money was well-spent.
But it was great to put a real face to a long-time virtual friend, and I'll definitely be back in Seattle sometime when I can have more free time to poke around.

Well, yes, it is rather large, by most folks' standards.
Still and all, there are probably more than few Nutz hereaboots that will be only too happy to drop a hint or two as to where you might find a refreshing change in scenery.

That E.M.P. is indeed worthy.
I liked the way the monorail went straight trough the building to reach the terminus. Must be the purest of coincidence that pictures of the building appear on a Windoze 7 wallpaper theme...
The "tree" (or "waterfall") of musical instruments is impressive alone, even though some of the items looked rather like they were not really serious instruments. I recall thinking how tiny Jimi's stage costumes looked in the glass cabinets.
Plenty of scope there Gumbo!

I've been teased with a visit from each of you guys. I thought sg was actual en route one time, but then he didn't make it. newey was actually in town last year, but I was in FL for a family emergency. Aw well. One of these days...
Weren't we talking about a (US) NutzFest at one point? Like we were all going to converge on cynical1's horse farm in southern WI and party for a weekend. That would have been cool.
I was in Seattle in 94. It seemed pretty cool, but we were only there for a day and a show, and I didn't get to see or do much. Funnily never got there in the big truck. We were close a couple times, but never actually made it to the city. Not that I would have gotten to see much then except for a loading dock and maybe a truck stop.

I saw several of each that had a view of Puget Sound. I suspect they wouldn't suck, scenic-vista wise. What's even cooler is that the monorail has been there for several decades, so Frank Gehry designed the museum around (literally, curved around) the existing monorail. A neat architectural trick. Yes, it would have, but cynical has moved out to the Northwest as well, so the one who is now most centrally located is . . . you, ash! Duluth in July is nice, it is even occasionally possible to swim in the lake, although one's gonads may shrink to the size of BBs and lodge in one's pelvis . . .

Lol! I won't go further than my ankles into that lake, nor really any of the thousands that this state is known for, but then I was born in Biloxi and spent ten years so far south I didn't see frost except on vacation.
Of course y'all are welcome any time. I've got space for tents or campers or whatever. A little warning might be nice...

Had to lol when the news broke that less than 8 hours after the election was over, Australia's, New Zealand's and Canada's web servers for Immigration questions all broke down under a Hulk Hogan-worthy crushing load!
Me, I'll stick it out for now, waiting to see whether his cronies advisors can keep him reined in, and whether or not Congress (and the US Supreme Court) can prevent the large amounts of damage he intends to inflict on the citizenry. If it looks like it'll become open season on the "peons who can be fired at will", then the RV will become licensed in Canada shortly thereafter.
And after that, we'll see how much we have to sell it for, in order to afford plane tickets out of Vancouver BC, heading in a gumbo-oriented direction.
In short, I'm not too old to adapt and adjust, but I am too old to do so on an emotionally-driven whim - I require a bit more evidence of that handbasket heading toward Hell, TYVM.

I didn't wish to raise this subject here, simply because it is so divisive. But divisiveness was the basis of Trump's campaign, so what do we expect. I'm dismayed by the result, but not at all surprised.
Anyway, sumgai, I'm glad newey and you managed to meet up, even if it was for just a few hours. If you do end up moving Canada, I might follow (if I can persuade my wife). She's American (I'm British), so it would be understandably harder for her to up sticks. Yes, not the kind of change to make based upon emotion. I expect that the presidency will be a chaotic mess. And it could be worse than that too. But we can hope. I best leave this here. I know that some members will disagree and I don't wish to see Gnuts embroiled in the rhetorical mess I see all over the Web.

Pretty much the way I viewed the so-called "Brexit" fiasco over here, although my feelings regarding that were more influenced by the expected negative affect on my imminent pension draw down. I have to stay out of American politics because I have very little knowledge of its machinations, but just like Bush:Gore, again with Trump:Clinton we see the electoral college system ignoring the popular vote. Still, I suppose that system has worked out fine over the centuries for you guys... Over here we have the "UKIP" party (diluted fascists, ugh) that garnered 13% of the popular vote but only won one or two seats in our parliament. Irrespective of my thoughts regarding that shower of 5h1t3, it doesn't seem right on any level. Democracy eh? Comes in a surprising number of flavours.

I think most of us are in agreement here - give the asshat a chance. However...
A friend recently wondered....... isn't it a very strange coincidence that the two worst days of American History are 9/11 and 11/9?

I'll put a $ on tbe following trifecta of future events:
2018 Impeachment hearings (I'll not bet on what about however, too many options there)
2019 President Pence
2020 President Obama (M)

I usually avoid political discussions like the plague. Usually.
But I wonder if I'm the only one who thinks that it's a bit disingenuous to say "give a chance" while in the same breath calling the President-elect an asshat. And in the next breath citing someone's opinion that his election was one of the two worst days in American history.
Just sayin' . . .

'TrEaD, I'll give you that, but in point of fact, that's my brand of humor; somewhat ironic, partially sardonic, a dash of droll, and possibly (on rare occasion), actually funny. What I said, in essence, was that I'm not in favor of the guy at all, but I am still an American at heart, so I'm willing to give it a fair go. But I reserve the right to define "fair go" at my discretion, doncha know.

WhaddItellya, ain't this guy a Grand Master at derailing a thread, or what!!!
g-f-b, thanks for the invite, but the RV doesn't float so well, so it may be awhile before we can/have to alter our mode of transportation. Stay tuned, 'cause as the ancient curse pontificates, we do indeed live in interesting times! I won't relay all the gory details I've seen on various news sites, you can all see for yourselves just how out-of-control some of the American populace is already becoming. But how much of that news is believable, I can't say.

All I'm going to say is that I still have to do to what I have to do to keep myself and especially my kids alive whatever game those fricking people think their doing. Just like most of the other 7 billion people in this rock. It might be easier for some in one place, harder in others. I know for a fact that I've got it a lot better than the vast majority, but I don't ask for much and I'm going to get what I need one way or another. Let them play their games. We just do what we gotta do.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and hazard a guess that somehow, gumbo has become prescient. I mean, his post came in 1 3/4 hours before newey admits that this thread is now fully under g-f-b's control. That's scary!
To paraphrase what the customer at another table said in When Harry Met Sally, "I'll smoke whatever he's smoking!"
