www.seymourduncan.com/pickup/quarter-pound-jazz-bass-set-3These are a little dark for my tastes. They do well for distorted bass, but if you're into slap bass, they don't snap like vintage output pickups. I think it makes more sense to go active than to go for QP's, but if you're not a demanding tone connoisseur and don't want to deal with dead batteries, it's a viable option. Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound Jazz Bass - DC Resistance: 13.60K ohms - Measured L: 6.716H - Calculated C: 244pF (254 - 10) - Gauss: 775G
unloaded: dV: 14.6dB f: 3.85kHz (black) loaded (200k & 470pF): dV: 4.1dB f: 2.13kHz (red)The 14.6 dB resonant peak in these Fender style bass pickups is pretty impressive after seeing a ton of electric guitar pickups that rarely break 12dB. My best guess is that these have a slightly higher ratio of air in the core. Air cores generally have a higher Q factor due to the lack of eddy and hysteresis losses.
