Hi,
Sorry I am SOOO confused!
My guitar is home built and am now wiring.
setup is Double Wilkinson Humbuckers with a hotwire/shielding wire (which am using for ground) had setup a 3way toggle switch 1 volume and 1 tone using a map from seymour duncan website and it gave no sound except slight buzz.
I have tried a lot of different things to figure out why its not making sound I have reduced the circuit just pickup and jack - with still just slight buzzing.
Pickups have magnification, and are releasing a steady 10ohms at pickup and at jack.
What i have tested;
- tried different pickups - tried different jack - lead and amp are in working order - tested with other guitar.
When plugged in there is slight humming which reduces if i touch the humbuckers and no sound if i hit the pickups with a screwdriver or play the strings.
thanks for reading - i have not put up photos as i feel they wont be helpful for this post.
Please help i'm so lost/frustrated!

Hello Boogie. To Guitarnutz2 I don't know what you mean by 'have magnification' maybe you can explain more about that. 10 ohms is a very low value. Maybe you miswired the 3-way and connected to its frame rather than the point where the two halves of the switch join together. Can you post a link to a picture of the type of 3-way you're using?

Hi thanks for your reply,
I mean the magnets are working on the pickups.
At the moment the only thing attached to the pickups is the jack...

Oh, okay.
10 ohms is way too low if you're measuring between the tip and sleeve of the output jack or between the inner conductor and outer braid of the pickup cable. It sound like one of your pickups is shorted or the output jack is.
Try disconnecting the pickups from the output jack and measuring resistance again.
Inner conductor to outer braid of a pickup should measure around 6000 ohm or so. Depends on the pickup, so don't worry if it's anywhere in the 1000ohm to 10,000ohm range.
Between the tip and sleeve of an output jack should be open circuit (infinite resistance) if nothing is wired to it.

oops sorry, my mulitimeter is only x1000 setting so ohms reading is 10,000 ohms
but disconnected, jack isn't reading anything and pickup is reading the same. I'm assuming "inner conductor and outer braid of the pickup cable" are my hot and ground wires?
cheers

Yes.
Jack should read the same as nothing connected to the meter probes. If that's what you mean by 'nothing' that part is good.
Clarify what you mean by "pickup is reading the same". Same as what? Same as the output jack? Same as the 10,000 ohms you measured before?

sorry yes correct. When the pickups are disconnected they read 10,000 ohms when jack is disconnected it reads 0 ohms here are some photos 2 are attached

This has been solved, I was connected to the wrong part of the stereo jack.
Thanks for your help

Boogie-
Hello and Welcome to G-Nutz2!
Glad you were able to solve your issue. You hadn't mentioned that you were using a stereo jack.
Sorry, but I had to delete one of you attached photos as it was waaaaay oversized and was blowing off the page.
