I could've given this topic many Subject lines, but I decided to forego the possible humor aspects, and just dive in. Thus, we'll see couple of videos from a single lady guitarist, from Norway, calling herself The Commander-in-Chief. Does she deserve that name/title? You be the judge.
(BTW, I got there by following B4nj0's link in the compressor thread. Thanks to e&oe for the time-sink! )
OK, so we all know that Orianthi is probably the world's highest rated lady guitarist, but there are others who can equally astound. For first-hand info, check out YouTube channels Alizee Defan and Alizee Lilly (likely the same people), and others as you may find on your own. But so far, Orianthi has presented a one-sided picture of herself, strictly flashy metal-like stuff. She can certainly sing, and is a good tunesmith, make no mistake. But for all that, she doesn't seem to spread out very much, at least not in my opinion.
While there are one helluva lot of lady guitarists on YT, and even some mind-blowing youngsters of both genders, I've yet to see one so well rounded in classical technique as The C-in-C. To demonstrate, here's the first thing I stumbled across (and how I got here will be the subject of a separate thread), wherein she does a duet with a pure classical guitar. See if you consider the blend to be 'as natural as can be', like I did:
Now this one is in a similar vein, but with a different classical player, one that she performs with more often. Also, the piece is quite familiar to most musicians, hence my choice. (And, the introductory plot line is a nice change of pace.)
And just to prove that she's no one-hit wonder, she can both write and sing. Out of all the performances she did for EMG TV, I particularly like the skill she exhibits on this one:
But as usual, I'm open to others presenting their favorites. This looks like a good thread to do it in.

orianthi is fake as hell, the same with the general lady. Today I'll post some real women guitarists with great talent.

I'm not sure I agree with that. They look biodegradable to me. Doesn't appear she's faking anything here, although fretboard wanking has never been my cup of tea. Real Women? Easy enough to find if you look through the list of those who've performed on ACL. I wouldn't mind living next door to Shawn. Completely unpolished but that's not the point.

I too can find killer guitar players, but being as I've advanced in age to the point where I can be judgmental, I lean more towards reTrEaD's viewpoint - shredders can be found on nearly every street corner. What I want to hear is someone who speaks to me, regardless of what they are playing. If I'm hearing the same old, same old, then I'm not likely to be impressed.
What C-in-C brought to my party was the fact that she's very definitely classically trained, and in classical guitar music at that. For my money, if Liona Boyd had desired to show the riff-raff what fret-smashing flying fingers were really all about, she could've done it without breaking a sweat. But classical players aren't like that.
Enter C-in-C. She's just demolished the stereotype of classical players all to hell and gone. Trust me, she has what it takes, and can use it whenever she wants. And for someone who detests singing in general (despite marrying an opera singer), I'm highly impressed with her vocal talent too.
Laura Cox Emily Hastings Tina S. Sophie Lloyd literally everyone ever featured in an Alizee Defan video
The list of incredible lady players is long and well-earned, I have no argument with that. But before I go re-posting them to The NutzHouse, they better be able to drag an old man out of his doldrums, and make his bones quiver with excitement.
And for the record, I just found another cello playing pair of brothers that will take 2 Cellos to the woodshed. Things are heating up in the world of talent, thanks to the Internet and in particular, YouTube. I'm glad I lived this long, to see what would've been prohibitively expensive to obtain, only a decade ago.

Well here's a few of mine, as of yet unmentioned: Larkin Poe (Rebecca & Megan Lovell) - When God Closes A Door: Susan Tedeschi - Just Won't Burn: Samatha Fish - Money To Burn: Ana Popovic - Navajo Moon: Joanne Shaw Taylor - Jump That Train:

SG For ppl who have been following the 80s movement of barock/neo-classical style, this Commander lady sounds just as you call it : old. Same with orianthi. Those players just mimic 80s. Get Commander (or ... the Great Kat? ) play anything, and old Yngwie (or Satch ot Steve Vai, or anyone actually) will play it better and faster. But get Yngwie to even try to do what those two I posted are doing and he will hit his strat to the floor so hard it will take Cyn1 with all the all the elmers he could find to get it back to shape !!!

I bet you haven't seen this one tho :
What I am trying to say is that in the modern guitarist mentality there is a certain order that most ppl respect and maintain :
blues(50s) < rock (60s) < hard rock(70s) < metal(80s) < jazz (rock) (no specific decade) < neo-classical (also 80s) < modern shred (90s) < modern djent shred (2000->today) The inequality here does not represent "better" just harder or newer. So just like a rocker from the 70s knew how to play blues, or a metal player how to play hard rock, todays Djent shredders know how to play everything. Orianthi and the CIC ladies have stopped somewhere in the 80s/90s.

Ana Popovic - Navajo Moon: I have seen a documentary on how she moved from Serbia to the Netherlands to live her rocknroll (or blues) dream. Nice person, btw

Hmm. Well, whatever the disagreements in the above comments, you all might agree that the women listed so far are (comparatively) great guitarists after to view the following. I went to one of the gigs from this tour (not my choice - my wife's - but I went with an open mind) - possibly the worst (paying good money) musical experience of my life. OK, she is not known as a great guitarist anyway (more as a singer, song-writer), and usually plays acoustic, but she decided that she can play electric, talked (a lot) about it, and decided to dazzle us all - FFS! I won't spoil it by telling who it is in advance. Make sure you get past the simple chord playing for the minute-thirty - it gets better! Enjoy (or not)...
