Hi everyone, I'm new to this website. I've only been looking in for about a week and I just love all the information thats being shared! I have a Epi Casino and I want to replace the pups with a set of GHS pups that I already have. I've been told that its really easy but, I've never done this before so I have a case of the spooks. Do you just remove the old pup from the top and solder the wires together there? or do you have to remove the volume knobs and solder them there?
The other question I have which has probably been asked a zillion times before is that I've heard that you should replace the 250K pots with 500k? Why? Thanks!

guit-man, Hi, and to the forums. Glad you've liked it so far. Stick around, the fun is just beginning! Chesh is right, except that he mentioned P90's and you didn't. What kind of pickups are on the Casino now, and what are you putting in as replacements? The current school of thought is that 500K pots work better for humbuckers in terms of loading, overall tonal qualities, etc. 250K pots are preferred for single coil pups. When replacing pups in a hollow or semi-hollow body guitar, you shouldn't try to de-solder the old pickups from their wiring assemblies. The reason for that is, the wires on the pickups themselves are very delicate, and you could easily break one or more of them. That goes not just for taking out the old pup, but installing the new one as well. Plus, what about the color codes of those wires, do they match between old and new? Worse, do those same colors go to the same winding ends on each pup? If you don't know, then you're really playing with Fate if you monkey around here. Better would be to de-solder the whole wire assembly from the volume controls and/or the selector switch. Yes, that's a PITT, but it'll save you a lot worse grief if you have to send your new pickups back in for repair, or outright replacement. See other threads on these forums for tips on how to "fish" controls out of the body, and to get them back into place without needing to start a Rogaine treatment the next morning! ;D HTH sumgai

Thanks for the input! The pups that i'm putting on are the "Custom Vintage" P90 from GHS, they are suppose to fit right in the same cavity. Sounds like it's going to be a bit more involved than I thought. Well, no pain, no gain.
Has anyone used these pups? Any good?

guit-man, The "exact fit" issue being taken care of, I can only direct you to probably the best thread (recently) covering how to do the swap. Go here: guitarnuts2.proboards45.com/index.cgi?board=pup&action=display&thread=1142301592 and see if all that makes sense to you. If not, then it would be considerate of you to start another thread in that forum (Gear Concerns/Pickups) for your questions. Good luck! sumgai
