[quote author=jfrankparnell board=Amps thread=5668 post=53766 Now, I still dont get the ground concept where there are different voltages and circuits all using the same ground? That seems weird, like the different voltages would get mixed up, lol. The power jacks on the amps are plastic, and isolated from the chassis apparently. Whereas the audio jacks on the hog seem to be grounded to the chassis, but not on the Roland. [/quote]
Ground is ground is ground. Ov. Got a DMM?

7809 voltage regulator is good for 1.5A. Just put a big butt electro cap to ground on the input and another on the output.

Rick - thats fantastic work, nicely photographed and presented too. The only amp Ive previously known of that seems on the face of it to be at all similar to your family is Zvex's Nano amp. Do you take a similar approach to the circuitry? John I first saw those nano amps a few years ago, thought to myself 'gotta buy one of these', saw the price and thought 'gotta build one of these'. No schematics were available of course, so I looked at adapting some pre-existing full sized tube amp designs. I did a lot of research too on voltage multipliers which are used in nixie tube clocks. So yeah, what I ended up with is similar in concept - tiny tubes and voltage multiplication - but I think I do it better (of course!), my amps don't whine, and are set up more like traditional tube amps in terms of preamp/tonestack/power amp. I've had some customers who have bought both, mine and Zvex, mine come out favourably.

Hi guitar nuts! I was just invited to join this forum by one of your members. I build and sell cool submini tube amps and custom effects pedals. I've got loads of nice project design threads over at DIYSB and FSB. I'll be showcasing my work elsewhere on the forum but just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. Please feel free to browse my website: www.frequencycentral.co.uk/Rick
