I've got a diagram of a Radio Shack 274-0312 jack on my Photobucket site. If anyone thinks that might be useful for explaining to a new guy about tip-ring-sleeve, the difference between stereo and mono jacks, or what a normally-open jack looks like and how it works, I'll post the link here.

Okay. I'm still sorting out the terminology and the differences in these myself, so I guess I'm the "new guy" who could use some coaching about jacks.

Doug, i'm not thrilled with that drawing. it's a bit ambiguous because of the height they drew the #3 element in relation to the center of the sleeve. i like this one better: the stereo TRS version is B.
