Hello, This looks like a good place to hangout. So I am getting ready to wire up my Lone Star pickguard and have a few questions I hope someone can help me with. For starters, I have shielded the cavity and the back of the pickguard with heavy copper, and have continuity through both. I lugged the tremelo ground to the shielding and plan on the star ground in this picture: (diagram 1)My questions are related to the difference between the above s/s/s diagram and the one below described as the Lone Star switching: (diagram 2)1)In the s/s/s, diagram 1, we ignore the output jack shield, in diagram 2 it apppears to be grounded with the humbucker shield? Why? and Where does the other end of output jack shield go. 2)I never see any discussion of a putting a High Bypass Capacitor on a Lone Star volume pot, any ideas why? Thanks to all, ~jlokes SD Antiquity II Surf® neck SD Antiquity II Surf® (rw/rp) mid SD Pearly Gates® Humbucker bridge

hi Jlokes,
welcome to GuitarNuts2.
1 -- in the QTB (diagram 1), the braid of the output cable is connected at the output jack ONLY.
in the Lonestar Strat, the braid is connected at the volume pot ONLY.
EITHER way is valid for either wiring scheme.
the important thing is that it isn't connected at BOTH ends.
that would make the 400v cap useless.
also note that there are 2 inner conductors on that cable.
IF you were to use shielded cable for the output that ONLY had 1 inner conductor, the braid would be connected at BOTH the output jack, and the STAR GROUND. not at the volume pot.
2 -- treble bypass on a Lonestar hasn't been discussed, because it hasn't been discussed...............yet.
if you feel you are losing too much of the treble when you are turning down the volume, you certainly can do a bypass on the volume pot.
cheers,
unk

Thanks for the salutations and input unk,
So if I don't use a shielded wire at all for the output jack, then as I understand it:
White goes from jack tip to center tab on volume pot, and black goes from jack ring to star ground direct,? and the black jumper from the volume pot to star ground is not needed.
Is this the case?

..and black goes from jack ring to star ground direct,? and the black jumper from the volume pot to star ground is not needed.... no, that would be a problem. the ccw lug of the volume pot and the star ground need to be connected together. the black wire from the output jack (sleeve) can either connect to the star ground or the ccw lug, since the jumper connects those 2 together. cheers, unk
