Gentlemen,
I've got an axe on the table that, in addition to some serious humming (not single-coils, either) is exhibiting some odd behavior when flicking the toggle or rolling the tone pots. It generates the sort of high-pitch, variable-pitch sounds that one might hear when dancing around the AM radio spectrum. It isn't the amplifier, as it doesn't do this for any other instrument.
I'm trying to determine whether it's worth it for the customer for me to do a rewire with new pots and a new 3-way. Is there any chance that it isn't those parts causing the problem, that the pickups themselves are giving the grief? I don't want him to have to pay for the rewire only to then turn around and have to order new pickups when the noise doesn't go away.
Thanks in advance, B. Warshaw
