hi guys first post here~ ppl on ultimate-guitar dun seem to know the answer so here i go i've jst fitted 3 red lace sensor into my squire strat and all is well except at neck position the d and b strings are realli realli soft! does this mean that the pickup is faulty or could i have wired something wrong? and after reading a few pages on guitarnuts about the mid strat pickup being reverse polarity allwoing position 2 and 4 to act as a 'humbucker' can this be achieved with the lace sensors? THANKS

Welcome to the boards! I'm more comfortable with a pick than a soldering iron, but I'll take a shot here...(also I've never played on a guitar with Lace Sensors) Basically my hypothesis is you've got a dud pup. If your other 4 strings sound fine on the neck pup, and all 6 sound good on the middle/bridge; then it seems logical that something inside your neck pup is at fault. Then again, when I look how a Lace Sensor works: It seems like you should notice more than 2 "dead" strings if the pup itself is bad? Also perhaps the pup itself isn't high enough and the d and b strings are a bit taller than the others? Thus putting those 2 strings outta the "area" of the magnetic field? Above all though, I bet you wired it correct! I'm pretty sure it wouldn't work at all if something was messed up in the wiring.

If I'm to assume anything from the drawing Hammeroff posted, you want to jack Laces as close to the strings as possible. This, of course, means having the ideal setup for your guitar put into place first; find the string action you want, intonation, neck curve, and whatnot, then, which each string fretted on the highest fret, raise those suckers up until there's only a hair left between the pup and the string!
('Course, this is what I do to full-powered pups too... go figure.)
If you -still- have dead strings, then something's off with your pup. Customer service time...

ok ive rewired it.. sorta and all the strings are the same volume at the neck now~ BUT its still softer than the other 4 positions.. esp when clean channel is used..and it IS as close as i can get to the strings without it buzzing
