I've got a Mexican James Burton Tele from '96 and I think the neck PUP is weak. I'd like to put a Humbucker in there. I'm thinking of a Gibson Burstbucker. I know squadoosh about electronics and wiring (Ive just swapped out my stock Strat PUPs for Texas Specials), and I know there will be a router involved (which does make me a little nervous), but I like to mess with stuff.
So what kind of wiring stuff do I need to be aware of. I checked out the wiring diagram for the stock PUP, and it has 3 wires coming from it. I think the Burstbusker's only got 2. I have no idea if this is a big deal.
I'd love any advice anybody has to offer.
Thx

im not familiar w/ the burst bucker? is it a true humbucker w/ two coils?
it will either have two or four.
just wire it like a normal humbucker. are you keeping the rest of the electronics stock?

The Burstbucker pickups are Gibson's newest for LP guitars. They're typically used in the ~~$2,000 instrument range, but can be had in the all mahogany LP faded from MF or GC ($800). As replacement pickups they tend to street for about $110.
It may work with the Lace pickups in the James Burton if they aren't Lace Transducers (read the Lace site about this, I've never used Lace except for their Alumitones, which are transducers and cannot be used with other passive pickups).
You may also have a phasing issue between the Laces and the Burstbucker (if the Burstbucker is one wire plus shield, you'll have to reverse the phase of the Laces).

Re the Lace issue, thius is the cheapo mexican JB Tele, so no lace involved. Bridge pup is a texas Tele.
I plan on keeping the rest of the electronics stock (other than maybe doing some shielding). Being a newbie, I don't want to bite off more than I can chew. To ask a really stupid question, what would I want to change and why?
