I just recently started rewiring a Hofner that i inherited from a relative. Well, I've realized that its really quiet when i plug it into any amp. I am wondering if there is a capacitor of some sort or anything i can put inside it that will make it louder. I'm also having some trouble on figuring out where to put the grounding wire to ground it properly. Any help is definitely welcome.

when you say quiet, do you mean quieter than before?
everything should be grounded to the back of a volume pot. from there you should run a wire to the bridge to fully ground it.

no...it was quiet with the original electronics in it. so would that be the pickup thats naturally quiet or is there a way to put somethin in it to make it louder?

chances are, its the pickup. what about amp? do you think it is that? the only way to find out for sure, is to rip it apart and take a multimeter to it. post what you find, we can help interpret. there are ways to make it louder. new pickups being one. also, you could put in a preamp, but then youre getting into a whole new set of things.

yeah, im on a limited cash budget. i know its not just the amp, because i also own a squire strat that i have done some custom work on and a very very old supro guitar. both of those play louder than this guitar. which is wierd since the supro is about thirty years older than the hofner. i just ordered an old ampeg amp. maybe its just that type of amp that i have(its a cheapy) and i wonder about a new pickup. the string spacing on the hofner is really tight(thats why i like it, easier to shred) i dont think just any pickup will do. will it?

it really depends on your personal preferense. noone here can really tell you what you will like on this. i would still suggest the multimeter tests. you never know when a component in your circuit could be bad and causing this.
are you using any of the same coponents from before?

no, its all new stuff. well, i just got a new ampeg amp today(its not new condition but new to me)and the guitar sounds louder through it. so i think its ok for right now. also, do you know how much voltage goes through a guitar? i have some switches for a car that are 12v max and i was wonderin if they would work.

Guitars (as oppoed to amps) only carry miniscule voltages so the rating isn't an issue.
